Re: Top door moulding

If you mean the black metal trim , then its held on by clips and if you get something like a wide chisel wrapped in a rag to protect paint you can lever it off

Re: Exhaust manifold stud snapped

yep flat on 1st then the spring . Give them holes a real good clean out , maybe an aerosol degreaser and compressed air and then paint a bit of antisieze compound ( copperslip ) before you fit the new studs and you don't have to do them up real tight . A good tool for cleaning threads is get a bolt ...

Re: Exhaust manifold stud snapped

Proximity to the head may be a bonus heat wise , but Id try heating the stud and using vice grips 1st , if it doesn't move the stud and you munch it a bit you can still weld the nut on , wipe the head with a smear of oil if you don't have anti spatter guard . You usually only get one go at these thi...

Re: 32/36 carb

Another method is to stuff a bit of clean rope in thru the plug hole and bring piston up to TDC to hold the valves in place . White smoke ( steam ) could also be just condensation that has built up in the exhaust . Keeping an eye on water levels will soon tell you if there is water getting out somew...

Re: 32/36 carb

Mine smells fumy when cold , smells like oil burning , has done for ever and still did it after a complete rebuild ..... but doesn't burn a drop of oil . I think using synthetic oil make the smell more noticeable

Re: Bad fuelling?

Could be a fuel pump . I once had a fuel blockage between the pump and the carb which was a proper bastard to find . Some fibrous material ,( I suspect from a disintegrating fuel filter ) was in the line between pump and carb (an up hill run) and as the fuel flowed the stuff was gradually lifted to ...

Re: horrible vibration

Long shot but are you sure the exhaust is not making contact with the body . Mine does it with a couple of porkers in the back seat , doesn't really vibrate the car but it sure did make a racket ........the sort of noise to make you 5hit yourself till I figured what it was Ha , I nearly had heart fa...

It is supposed to do that until the engine warms up .

Re: 32/36 carb

Sounds like the fast idle needs sorting . If the throttle shaft crank doesn't contact the idle speed screw either the throttle plate is skewiff in the throttle bore , there is no slack in throttle cable adjustment ( disconnect cable at carb to eliminate that possibility ).... or the fast idle is eng...

Re: gear lever knob change advice

blue dash looks pretty cool. I lines ( if that's the right word ) the inside of my dash assy with shiny ally tape , the idea being to reflect more light around the inside of the dash assy . I removed ( what was left of ) the domes that covered the original bulbs before fitting the led's. I also have...

Re: 32/36 carb

I #ucked about with mine ( idle mix ) for ages getting nowhere and eventually went and got a vacuum gauge and set the idle mix to give max vacuum....... in the end most of the issues came down to the carb float ( black plastic coated foam job .... not the good brass one ) not floating properly as it...

Re: gear lever knob change advice

:xd: , yeah but wait till you see how much a new standard knob cost..............I paid less for a whole T9( without the feckin knob :( ) . The Mrs bought me a knob that has the numbers and lines on top lit up in blue l e d , which also matches all the blue l e d's in the dash 8-) 8-) 8-) :wank: 8-)...

Re: Best way check a gear box? (Unfitted)

I know it seems like a major but removing and fitting a gearbox is pretty straight forward and chucking it in there is probly the best way to test it. As above take the top off , have a butchers , bit of a clean out , new oil and fit her up..............................or ( and this is what I would ...

Re: Best Method of Underbody Protection

I use stuff called Fisholine , which is fish oil , mixed with a bit of turps and sprayed on/in the car , the stuff wicks in real good and can be painted over when dry ( and don't hold your breath waitin for that ) . Then some sort of tar / bitumus stuff than never really hardens , you can get it wit...

Re: Exhaust manifold

yes but I'd do one at a time , that way the new ones will go in the correct holes. If you remove all the studs at once you wont know which hole to put the new ones in ..... if you only remove one at a time there will only be one hole , thus removing the possibility of fitting a stud to the wrong hol...

Just seen an on screen ( heads up display )speedo thing that sits on the dash and projects an image onto the windscreen , one power wire and the thing uses gps to sense speed .....69 bucks ( about gbp35 ) ...... could solve a few issues with matching speedo to whatever engine/box/diff you have fitted

Re: Ignition coil choice for electronic ignition.

Are you sure there is no ballast , in the capri the ballast resistor is actually a length of hi resistance wire built into the loom and not a normal resistor ........ so there is nothing to see . Probly the easiest way to check would be to measure the voltage at the coil+ ( ignition on ). If the ele...
