Re: My 86' Laser - Back To Basics

Nice work and thanks for the thanks you gave back in 2015 for the adjustable tca's. Just fitted mine last week with other bits and bobs. Can't believe I had for soo long.
How long before you reckon you be able to enjoy her again?

Re: Mk3 Track/Race Car Build - Picture Heavy NOW!

To update on the brake cooling, i will be probably ising 63 to 75mm ducting for space requirements. Also the metal disc shiel i have shown i have already revised so that it will sit inside the rear bell of the disc and will force air into the centre of the disc. This also means the rear of the disc ...

Re: brakes

I have the Caprisport GTR280 kit and it uses Sierra Cosworth Front discs with Mondeo calipers taken off any Mondeo except v6 model Mondeo. Looking at vintage Mondeo models upto 2003 i think But these need minimum 15" wheel plus obviously adaptor from Caprisport. [URL=http://s1044.photobucket.co...

Re: Mk3 Track/Race Car Build - Picture Heavy NOW!

Some quick pictures of the brake backing plate mock up in CAD Ignore the caliper being upside down, this doesn't matter for what i am doing as the carrier is symetrical (ish) [URL=http://s1044.photobucket.com/user/Will01Capri/media/Capri%20Resto/20170226_143229_zpsjiem9yrb.jpg.html][img]http://i1044...

Re: Jump Starter Devices

I always disconnect battery at negative if being left for long period of time, that helps keep the cells in good nick Don't rely on jumping a battery all the time as it will kill it quickly. SHould only be used as backup. Also with lead acid batteries if you leave them for long periods with low char...

Re: Jump Starter Devices

i used the Aldi one yesterday. It hadn't been charged in a while and only showed 50% capacity and allowed me to start a car which had laid for 4 years and the battery left connected and completley dead. plugged on cranked for 30secs and the car started (sounded like bag of nails but i only needed to...

Re: Cam belt age

I would not recommend this cowboy method. I am sorry, but for some cars it may work and work quite well, but for others it is a no go. You really should follow the correct installation procedure. This is very important as some cars are very sensitive to good timing. Why go to the bother of installin...

Re: Mk3 Track/Race Car Build - Picture Heavy NOW!

Long time between updates and not much done! GAZ adjustable inserts are on order and in post. Also ordered 40lb helper springs and spacing collar to connect to 2.25" coil. Can't wait till they arrive so i can mock build them up and fine tune if required to height for the threaded collar. This i...

Yes are dated, yes the auto-factors should only be selling in date kits :)
As said belt is good up until 8 year period, as long as they have been stored correctly of course

Re: Cam belt age

Since i work for a said Timing Belt company the best advice i can give you is trust in the owners manual for change period and time as the belt would have been specced against that. Life for aftermarket belts is 8 years, i say aftermarket as OE belts will not be avaialble for these engines anymore a...

Re: Jump Starter Devices

i think you find cell stability is an issue aswell as they don't like vibrations, knocks, heat, low % capacity etc. Charging cycles and storage are all big factors and really for continual use the batteries need to be larger than you get in these jump starters. Nothing i am sure which couldn't be ov...

Re: Building a Capri from parts? 3 Litre?

As long as you truly are as patient as you say you are, build one from parts is a great way to make the car your own. I am doing such a thing for my track car, but at least i don't need to worry about an interior, but i have had alot of welding instead to worry about. It will definitely be worth it ...

Re: Tax classes and build dates

My one is slightly more annoying as i have stripped a 79 Mk3 GL & am building it up in a 81 L shell, technically it now means i have to wait another few years on top. I wish there was something where i could say i have used alot of 79 parts to build my 81 and then get free road tax sooner doh!

Re: Rear x-frame axle location kits.

Yes these will make a noticeable difference, it makes even more difference though if you push the car a bit especially on track. They are cheap (obviously free for you) and easy to fit, but i would only fit if you have single leafs obviously. I have seen people talking about fitting with multi-leafs...
