Re: Indicator/horn stork no longer working
Cheers Danny, Ive managed to get the horn working after basically stripping cleaning and rebuilding all the parts. The main beam also works from the stalk so I'm suspecting a nipped earth or dodgy connection somewhere. I start on the indicators today so fingers crossed. Im not sure if its connected,...

Re: Are these legit electrical connections?
Thanks for the info guys, The top picture is the permanent live from the battery (bottom picture) traced up to just below the windscreen before splitting into 4, could this be the power source for everything on the console/steering wheel? Does anyone know where I can get better electrics schematic t...

Indicator/horn stork no longer working
Afternoon, hope everyone is well My indicators and horn have stopped working (along with the rev counter). The horn wire has continuity from the stork to where it connects to the horn but no voltage when operated. I’m guessing that power isn’t getting to the stork (if that’s a thing)? I’m in the pro...

Are these legit electrical connections?
Afternoon all, hope everyone is well. I’m in the process of getting rid of some of the electrical gremlins I have and after unwrapping some of the cabling I came across these. Are they legit connections or after market bodges? I will be tracing them but it does get a little awkward as they go throug...

Re: Rear brake drum removal
I replaced the shoes, although I think the issue was the seized handbrake linkage and shoe automatic adjuster, (I initially started the job as the braking system as a whole was suspect and the front brakes looked ok). I cleaned everything up and applied a little copper grease on the hub between the ...

Re: Rear brake drum removal
Good morning all, After being out of the country for a while I’ve finally managed to finish what I started before Christmas. In the end the drums came off once I sprayed penetrating oil on the studs (allowing the oil to go between the drum and the hub) and giving it a tap with a hammer between the s...

Re: Handbrake adjustment
Morning all, I know it’s been a while but I’ve been out of the country and have just had chance to finish what I started before Christmas! After stripping the rear brakes I found that both handbrake linkages were seized. After freeing them off and resetting the brake shoes, I then used Bug’s method ...

Re: Rear brake drum removal
Wow, thanks for all the tips guys, I’m currently in Africa and have been since the beginning of January, hopefully home by the end of April. I’m not being rude just don’t have access to internet or the car!
I’ll be having another bash at it when I get home.

Re: Dixie Horn queries
Thanks Nige that’s clearer, my horns are wired to an extra switch on the dash, can I confirm that one side of the switch goes to 85 and the other side is earthed and then blade 86 on the relay is also earthed?
I now understand the point of the relay but am struggling with my earthing!
TIA!

Re: Dixie Horn queries
Hi,
I’ve installed the horns however when I wired it up per the diagram above it didn’t work. What I found was that If I removed the ‘switched from live horn’ wire completely, put a switch in the ‘fused live’ line and now it works, not real sure why unless I got something wrong initially.....

Alternator Wires
Afternoon all, hope everyone had a good Christmas! I’m in the process of removing all of the excess wiring in the car which involves me tracing the wires throughout. I have found that only one of the wires on the back of the alternator is actually connected to anything. I can’t make head nor tail of...

Re: Dixie Horn queries
Thanks for the tips guys, looking at the picture you posted earlier Andrew I’m happy with the earth from the relay, I’m guessing the ‘airhorns’ is to the live on the horn compressor and that the airhorns negative is also to earth. ‘Fused live’ is a wire I put in direct from the battery via a fuse an...

Dixie Horn queries
Evening all, Now that I’ve located and fixed my factory horn I’m after fitting a Dixie horn. After looking at the forum I’m a little confused; can I replace the factory horn with the Dixie with the existing wiring (the positive and earth only) and not use the relay? Is the relay and the extra wiring...

Re: Horn Location
Hi, I’ve solved the issue, after looking at the tiny diagram in the Haines manual I found that the horn doesn’t go through a fuse, I traced the wire from the stork to the horn checking for continuity as I went, there was a break in the engine bay which I eventually found under copious amounts of loo...

Re: Rear brake drum removal
Ok here’s the update, because I’m doing it on an axel stand I can’t get much umph behind the hammer, ive also tried a puller but it was a bit crap, both results were negative with the drum not budging, the weather has been shocking so I’ve been focusing on the electrics so that at least I’m not sat ...

Re: Rear brake drum removal
Thanks for all the pointers,
I reckon now that I’m 99% sure there’s nothing holding it on (the drum does spin with the handbrake off) I’m gonna try knocking it off with hammer and drift, I’ll let you know how I get on!

Random switch!
Evening all,
Just after a quick pointer please, does anyone have any idea what the ringed switch does please or indeed the thing just to the left of the switch?
Thanks,
Owen

Re: Rear brake drum removal
Thanks for the pointers guys,
I did use a mallet but sparingly as I didn’t want to damage anything, also all of the online advise said not to try and lever it off, is the back plate stronger than it looks?

Re: More fuses
Thanks, I replaced all the fuses and gave all the contacts a clean up, a little disappointed it wasn’t something other than the lights as that would have been an easy fix!
