Tickover delivery

Been a bit hesitant to post about this in the past as I really can't fault the quality of the products, however their delivery service is really doing my head in! Why is the only option for 'first class fedex'? At a minimum this adds on £4.50-£6 per order in my experience as it is weight dependant. ...

Re: Oven Cleaner!

Hi, Fantastic results and thanks for the tip. I'm guessing that oven cleaner is a lot cheaper than Gunk? Andrew. Can't say for sure, it was about £4 for a can, but I'm sure you can get cheaper, non branded stuff that would work just as well. I intend to try it on the block next time it's out the ca...

Oven Cleaner!

As I decided to give my inlet manifold a good clean up yesterday, I searched around for the best way to do this... A product popped up that I hadn't even considered before: Oven cleaner! Here's what I started with: http://i.imgur.com/KapPDnM.jpg This is the only picture I took of 'before' the clean,...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Just to go back to the choke flaps, everything I am seeing online suggests the choke flaps should be closed while the carb is stone cold They need to be yes, that's correct. And it is the bi-metallic spring/strip in the housing which makes it so. The choke flaps gradually open as the car warms up (...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Having a go is the best way to learn . The auto choke receives a bit of bad press but if it is set up properly they work just fine , probly the only real complaint I have is that it holds the choke in operation for to long , for me I start the car and every direction from home is at least 10km befo...

Re: Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Sounds to me like your fiddling with the choke flap not the actual throttle butterflies , and they don't have much of a spring at all , they rely on the bimetal in the choke housing ( the one you have just finished moving all over the place :xd: ) to control that choke flap. You really need to get ...

Issue with Butterfly Valve on 32/36 DGAV Carb.

Hi, I seem to have a problem with my carb: I noticed that there was no 'spring back' on the butterfly valves, they would simply remain open. The only way I could get them to snap shut by themselves was to rotate the choke housing a 180 degrees, but even then it seems quite 'loose'. if I rotate the h...

Maybe some kind of modified slide hammer? I know I had to properly wrestle with mine but it came off in the end. Not nearly as bad as you seem to be having it though.

Re: Most effective way to clean carpet & seats? (On a budget)

This - plenty of elbow grease, a wet vac, and it will probably need going over a few times if it hasn't been done in years! Also, test in an inconspicuous area first, as they say! If you don't own a wet vac, and can't borrow one, some supermarkets rent them out. I bought one from Wickes for £40 a c...

Most effective way to clean carpet & seats? (On a budget)

Hi all, So tomorrow I want to tackle the job of deep cleaning the capri's carpet & seats, from 30 odd years of dirt and grim the grey fabric is looking very brown. So I was wondering if any of you have any tips on the best way to remove stains and leave the carpet & seats looking like new! I...

If it helps I have a couple of laser alloys kicking about(no tyres) you can have, I am in Basingstoke Mike Wow really? I will PM. Honest to God I did not expect a handout when I posted this, I just wanted somewhere to rant! Annoyingly I can't move the car because the bearings are being done on the ...

One of my alloys was stolen!

Yep as if getting a big dent in a carpark wasn't bad enough (http://www.fordcapriforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=50669&p=343905#p343905), one of my alloys has now been stolen. Currently I've got the back-end up on axle stands as i'm having some work done on the half shafts, long story s...

Re: Can anyone identify what's wrong with my rear wheel bearings? (Pics inside)

Hi, I think you can safely say you've found the source of the oil leak right there! When I changed my wheel bearing a few years ago, I hammered the new bearing on. Not a dribble of oil since. As long as your mechanic is careful not to damage the bearing or it's oil seal, it should be OK. Andrew. It...

Update: So we finally managed to get the old bearings off, and on one of the half shafts I was greated with this horrifying sight: http://i.imgur.com/cYXfzFJ.jpg As you can see whoever installed these bearings last had made a right mess of removing the old bearings and has completely fucked the half...

Re: Can anyone identify what's wrong with my rear wheel bearings? (Pics inside)

Sorry, had my sources confused (mixed Tickover up with CCI), however i was still technically correct as the same bearings from Tickover's dedicated site are £28.50 exc tax and shipping, that'll mean with VAT and shipping added, they come to £39.60!! This is accurate as its from their own site thems...

Re: Can anyone identify what's wrong with my rear wheel bearings? (Pics inside)

Excellent, it sounds as though you've got all the possible pitfalls covered. Hopefully it will be the bearings at fault and the replacements will stop the oil from leaking. :goodluck: Andrew. Thanks for your help, always got to get a second opinion. Just to add: I'm almost certain the leaks are com...

Re: Can anyone identify what's wrong with my rear wheel bearings? (Pics inside)

Watch out, QH bearings don't have the correct seal. I found this out the hard way. I will post a picture when they arrive just to be sure, although I'm confident Tickover will send me the correct product, the claim to inspect the bearings before sending them out. I know they are a trusted seller so...

Re: Can anyone identify what's wrong with my rear wheel bearings? (Pics inside)

I think the damage you're seeing is just a spot of oil. Oh. I blame a combination of a small phone screen and poor eyesight! :D Where did you buy new bearings from? Andrew. I've ordered them from Tickover. While it's irritating that all prices are exc. VAT and 1st class being the only available shi...
