Re: Modified or Standard?

Standard all day long. Modifying cars should be left to modern cars without history and ones that can still easily be replaced. Fair enough if things are broke and you can't get standard replacements, or minor or period modifications but otherwise if you don't like the look of the Capri or its perfo...

Re: Horn not working

Could be a dirty connection on the horn. If you haven't already solved the problem give the horn connections a clean.

Re: Decent compression tester

The bottom end had done about 150,000 miles and am not completely sure what it is like. As I use the car daily I don't have time to take the whole engine apart to check if something is wrong when it could be something not related to the things you have mentioned such as a vacuum hose leak etc (altho...

Re: Decent compression tester

With the greatest respect, may I suggest you slow down a moment? I've been building and repairing pinto engines for a long time and I've never owned a compression tester. I've read your other post about your engine running problems and you seem to be trying to sort them in a funny order...I would a...

Me too, I`ve had for years & still works great (holds pressures etc).

Thanks for the replies and recommendation guys, I'll purchase a Gunson one tonight. When doing the compression test do I need to unplug the fuel pump which I've read else where?

Re: May just have found reason for bad idling and running rich

Just a thought but I had a problem with my 2 litre laser running rich and the revs jumping all over the place during idle. I changed the plugs got new electronic ignition tried ajusting the carb in fact I tried nearly everything I could :banghead: . Someone at work said I should try spraying some w...

Decent compression tester

I want to rule out engine compression for the reason my engine is running rough and was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent but affordable compression tester. I have a £20 - £30 budget, looked at a few such as draper but just wondered what other people thought. Cheers!

Re: One simple (?) Question about Capri's

Rear belts became mandatory (or it became mandatory to wear them) in `91, so I think they`d have remained as options on Capris till the end of production? AFAIK, all cars from the early `70s had front belts standard so I`m sure ALL Capris would have had them, but it only became compulsory to wear t...

Re: Refitting door and side mouldings

Many thanks for all your replies - now a little concerned! It doesn't look like there are any of the original pins left; but hopefully the bodyshop can come up with some arrangement to fit them back on such that they can be removed in the future, if needs be. Its a shame no-one ever re-manufactured...

Re: Missing Bellhousing bolt

Wow, daily driving an LS? How do you deal with the rust? :crying: With great difficulty haha, however, when I bought the car I knew this was the issue and am saving up to get some welding done but until then I fight a losing battle with rust by waxoyl, kurust and attacking any I see straight off. W...

Re: Missing Bellhousing bolt

Yup, below the starter. I've got some M12x30mm bolts on the way, can't hurt to have it there. Cheers guys! Oh yeah, wont hurt. I queried it with the garage and because the starter motor holds the bell housing they didn't bother putting one there from factory but the garage put one there for me anyw...

Is it by the starter motor? If so, I had the same issue and was told there isn't meant to be a bolt there from factory.

Re: Running Rich

Hello all, Last year I got a brand new 32/36 Weber and pretty much solved any poor running and gained a decent amount of performance. The only issue left is I'm running a bit too rich. I changed the plugs the other day and they are far too sooty. I did follow the rough carb tuning guide which came ...

Re: May just have found reason for bad idling and running rich

Have you checked the accelerator cable for play Jim? It may seems bizarre, but I noticed recently that mine had a lot of play in it. So I adjusted it to take that play out, which not only made the car more responsive and smoother (and it was fine before for me!), it enabled me to lessen the mixture...

Re: Kinematic Viscosity Comparison of Various Oils

Hi, Morris Golden Film has had many positive recommendations, from what I've read on the internet. I'll probably give it a try myself sometime. Why the change to a different viscosity oil? Didn't you use 10w40 before? Andrew. I've always used 20w50, as I believe that is what Tickover were putting i...

Re: May just have found reason for bad idling and running rich

Ok, thanks for the advice guys. I'll leave the timing alone then. Saves removing the cam belt and setting up the pulleys, just means I have to keep searching for the reason now though.

Re: Kinematic Viscosity Comparison of Various Oils

Just a little update: recently used the morris golden film 20w50 with my latest oil change and immediately noticed an increase in oil pressure.
