Spark Plug Socket

Hey guys, just a quick one. Would this socket fit the AP6FS Spark Plugs for a 1.6. It says its an 18mm but fits a 12mm thread and the hanes manual says the plugs have an 18mm thread.... Re: Draining some of the oil

Okay guys, today was the moment of truth. I drained some of the oil out using the tips from nigecapri, and they worked very well. The oil is now about halfway between min and max. Well, it has made no change to my oil pressure at all, so Terra-Kotta you were right about the amount of oil having no e...

Re: What size tyres are on your capri?

It varies from what I can make out. Older models had 165 70 13 up to 185 70 13. My '83 LS had the option of 165 70 13 or 185 70 13. The 2.0l S of the same era had 185 70 13. The 185 60 13 I don't think would've been put on by the factory, these would've been added later to reduce ride height.

Re: Draining some of the oil

Don't try it when the engine's been run - easy to do on the spur of the moment but it gets super hot & takes a while to cool. Use a pair of marigold type rubber gloves and turn the cuffs down, then any oil running down you fingers will get caught before it get to your wrist. Undo a few threads ...

Re: Rough idle??

My car had a similar problem, the carb use to ice up while driving along. This was in temperatures around 11degrees or less though. Would always start easy but use to conk out soon as it was about to come to a stop or slow right down. What carb do you have?

Re: Draining some of the oil

It was on the drive way which doesnt have any major slant to it, I'll have a check though. I removed the sump plug without jacking it up so it was as level as I could get it.

Re: Draining some of the oil

Thanks man, I'll check it out. I think it is a few mm above the max line. I was thinking maybe not all of the oil drained out? I did leave it to drain for a very long time (i.e. few hours) and there were still a few drips when I put the sump plug back. Would the oil be a different colour if some of ...

Draining some of the oil

I replaced the oil in my car a little while ago and put in less than the exact amount (3.75 litres with filter change) and it has still overfilled, and the oil pressure gauge is at the top. To say the least, I am a bit annoyed. Is it possible to undo the drain plug and let a little bit out and then ...

Re: 20w50 and 10w40 mix

Thanks for the reply guys. I thought 10w40 might be better circulating on start up in the winter and 20w50 is mineral so better protects the engine in Summer. I know you won't get the same protection in winter but its a trade off, I was hoping to get the best of both worlds, haha. I could swear othe...

20w50 and 10w40 mix

Hey guys, I changed the oil and oil filter yesterday on my car and put in 20w50. I'd been reading on this forum varying opinions on whether 10w40 or 20w50 should be used. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to put in 10w40 for the winter months and 20w50 for the rest of it. So my next oil cha...

Re: Paint Mixing in Surrey

Thanks for the help guys, I'll check these paint places out. The colour is Caspian Sea Blue, and I got in touch with Tickover awhile back and they reckoned that the colour was notoriously hard to match due to there being like 9 different shades of the same colour. So I'm not sure if the actual paint...

Paint Mixing in Surrey

Morning guys, I have a question. Doe's anyone know of any car paint mixing places in Surrey? My car seems to get more and more little scratches every time I drive it and it is about time I started filling them in with a pen. I would T-Cut it but I think the paint is too thin, which is probably why s...
