for cleaning up engine blocks and heads i start with a brush and standard thinners..... oh...and a screwdriver and scraper for the thick stuff......one washed off and dry i use some 'metal restorer/cleaner' from B&Q .... its an acid which i brush on neat and the then rinse with water...... blown...

Stock I did the rocker's in alumminum high temp from halfords. But your using a dark alloy colour on the heads? The block is depressing me now as it still a bit gunged up but I can't do much with it in the car. Stock are your rocker covers steel? They are well polished. BTW I'm only down after fitt...

Im not sure what the original ford colour was but when building the last cologne i used a Halfords high temp paint...... as for burning off thats yet to be seen as it hasnt been run yet...... but, the area prone for burning paint off will be above the exhaust ports......... basically where yours had...

could really do with a bit more info on the engine itself..... standard or modified, recent work carried out, mileage, etc etc ???? Oh, and just for the record...go out and rag f**k out of an engine then park up and switch it off it will get hotter...... if you jump back in a few mins later and star...

Correct!!...Must be a "Tight" motor..otherwise the gas's will just "by-pass" the rings and pressurise yer sump!...unfortunately not many people realise that and in effect waste their money buying bitsa parts off ebay or wherever to turbo their cologne..as most 2.8's have 100 odd...

air leak on the inlet side of things causing it to lean right out is a possiblity....how does in run/drive/ feel?

thats the 1600 'emax' ..... used in sierra..... smaller bore than early 16 and longer stroke..... unleaded friendly but no good for modifications....... i usually rob them of their 2 litre crank and rods
