Re: Another Capri Stolen....

Just seen this online, it's happened twice in the north London area apparently. They just tow a car away, so quicker than a hiab....frightening

Re: Dash Speaker ?

Well the radio fitted as standard could only receive LW/MW, which are mono, rather than 'VHF' (FM) which is stereo. Fortunately I'm a fan of Radio 4!

Re: DIY GARAGE WARRINGTON

Wouldn't it be great to hire out that workshop if you had to fit an exhaust or take the gearbox out? So much easier than working off axle stands. It strikes me as great value for money. Although at those prices, I can't see how the business is sustainable, not unless it's a working garage and you w...

Re: Easiest engine swap for a muppet with no experience

Don't forget that any modification, especially a serious one like a much bigger engine, will increase the cost of insurance. As others have said, good tyres properly inflated and the lack of power steering isn't an issue.

Re: Best exhaust system

I have a 2" Sportex, fitted by a previous owner, and agree the good balance of sound without being ridiculous. Only issue I had was the rear rubber mount perishing and rubbing against the NSR tyre. Took a little jiggling into position, will be keeping an eye on. Not sure if that is a fitting is...

Re: Electrical gremlins

Just to tie this off, I eventually took the relay unit apart and cleaned up all the connections, following which it has worked fine. Just thought I'd update for the benefit of anyone who may have a similar issue in the future. The blower and wiper issues did sort out when the earths were cleaned up ...

Re: Almost like learning to drive again!

Any time I drive the work van it takes a little while for my brain to recalibrate. So on exiting the car park I press the brake as I would in a Capri, and end up in a heap!

Re: Electrical gremlins

Finally had some time to look at this properly. Cleaned up both headlamp bowl earths and re fitted, nothing. Checked earthing strap on the relay unit, again, nothing. Measured resistance between all the above earth points and the -ve terminal, again all ok. I'm fairly sure that the relay is working ...

Re: mot today

I suppose the benefit of it all being computerised now is that such mistakes are (If procedure is followed) a lot more difficult. I went to the post office to pay the excise license about 6 weeks ago. "Dunno what Vehicle Excise Duty is" said the sullen clerk "all we can issue here is ...

Kurust tip

I've got this week mainly off, so have been dealing with a few bits of surface rust and stone chips before it gets too cold to do anything over winter. I've been grinding back to as clean metal as possible, then using Kurust before priming. The stuff is a right pain to get off brushes etc and runny ...

Re: Breakdown Cover

I seem to recall that the AA/RAC increasingly use small subcontractors themselves anyway. Supposedly, the core directly employed staff work early/late shifts, any particularly busy times jobs go out to other firms and anything overnight as well.

Re: Getting hard to keep?

I'm a natural hoarder and hold on to all sorts of things. If I had more than one garage I'd soon fill it... you never know when it's helpful to have some things lying around! If you look back at the old threads on this forum, you can see what things were like 15 years ago. Madness really! On the oth...

Re: Electrical gremlins

Wrote a reply the other day but got caught by the problem with the site logging out! Thanks for the tips. Had a check of the headlamp earths and they look a bit crusty, couldn't find my stubby screwdriver to get in to undo it so had to go out and get a new one from Screwfix in the evening during whi...

Electrical gremlins

Hi all, I have a few odd electrical gremlins which I'll outline below. Wanting to see if anyone has any thoughts or advice to suggest. Including all the detail I can think of even if not relevant! Firstly, the heater blower motor has been a bit squeaky for a couple of months, and just recently has t...
