Re : I have exactly the same problem..

The adjusters should be restorable. Take them out the car, clean them off with a wire brush, heat them up well with a blow torch then cool them with some WD40 or old brake fluid. Should all move quite nicely again after that.

Have you..

taken the rear drums off and checked the rear cylinders. Pull back the rubbers on each cylinder and check for fluid as in the early stages of shot cylinders the rubber seals hold in the leaking fluid and everything looks OK .

Couple of thoughts

A hole in the vac advance tube from the carb to dizzy or some muck in the main jets in the carb.

Re: Sporadic Heater Blower Problem

Have you checked the connections behind the dash? They're not easy to get at but if I remember there's 3 push on connectors near the top of the blower unit and they can corrode a little if any water has got in.

Is this

the sort of thing you mean? Believe this one is called an accelerator pump diaphragm. I have one brand new spare if you are interested.

Steering racks

<t>Seems to be a little bit of play in my rack and I remember a while back that Mark Swetnam changed his and the new one was twenty something pounds. I see GMS advertise them in the CCI mag for 28 but they haven't got any. Tried another Capri specialist and they want 45. What is the going rate then ...

Re: Auto choke

Part of the choke mechanism is controlled by a vaccuum created by a rubber diaphragm. You will need to dismantle the choke to chect it but the rubber may well be shot.

Re: locking wheels nuts

Sound like a set I bought from Halfords years ago and I assume there were several different patterns of key though I maybe wrong. If you have access to a welder you could always weld a nut on that you do have a socket for.

60's or 70's?

I'm ruuning a 2.0 Laser with standard suspension and alloys. The wheels came shod in 185/60's but will need replacing before long. Should I stick with this size or go for 185/70's as originally fitted? Don't fancy wrestling with 205, so it's just betwen these two. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Re seals

Don't know how price and quality compare but CCI do most of the seals you mention.

RE Sh1te cold start

<t>If you have a misfire is the timing def set up right? The other thing that springs to mind is that the spark is tracking somewhere. You seem to have replaced most of the electrics but what about the coil. Try getting some one to turn it over when it's dark and look closely for any errant blue spa...

Oil pressure

Presumably it doesn't drop that much, but as the engine warms up the oil thins a little and at tickover the pressure will be slightly less.

Therein..

<t>..lies the reason why modern Fords are pretty boring - they all look the bl**dy same. I guess it's partly down to cost and 'corporate image' but how about some different headlights/grilles so that the cars look a little more individual.<br/> I don't care if they build the Visos or not but if they...

Carb

You say you cleaned the carb Johan but did you take the main jets out and give them a good blow through too? I cleaned mine once and it wouldn't idle at all after cos I'd forced some crud into one of the jets whilst cleaning the rest of it. Worth checking especially if you ran it on low fuel.

Define "died"

If it just stopped with no coughing and spluttering I would guess its electrical. Sounds a bit like the low tension is intermittently earthing. I'd go with the suggestion of changing the coil and perhaps the leads too for good measure.

Re : spare cable

<t>Had a quick look under my bonnet and the cables to the coil that look black are not solid colours. The only true black one like you describe comes from the distributor where the condensor is connected and connects to a green cable with a similar cap that comes out of the wiring loom just undernea...

Re: did it

<t>Ok, there aren't connections on every terminal on the fusebox, some are from underneath and you can see these by looking under the dash or unscrewing the fuse box and pulling it out but I should leave it be at the moment.<br/> The red bull is presumably the ignition coil - what colour is this 'sp...
