Re: Rev Counter Repair

Right, prepare for a stoopid answer................. I once had a rev counter that failed. It turned out to be nothing more than the needle being loose on the spindle and not moving. See I said it was stoopid..................but worth a check. Fair point, will take it apart and give it a look!

Rev Counter Repair

Hi all, I finally have a working rev counter again! Only took me 3 or 4 years.... I had to change the original one for a replacement from Martin (thanks), and changed it over which worked, but in the interest of trying to repair the rev counter rather than chucking it as eventually there will be non...

Re: Ford's 2.8 Supplement

They do have a load of other makes/models as well with all sorts of stuff on them but as the website is French not all the manuals are in English... C'est très bien Danny. Je suis sûr que quelqu'un trouvera ce lien utile ! André :) Je l'espère André! le temps nous le dira... meilleures salutations ...

How about you buy it, I'll road test it for the next 30-40years and let you know how good it is and whether you've paid the right money for it :D

Ford's 2.8 Supplement

Totally random - I was scrolling the interweb looking for a new oil filter for the Fez, found the entire Haynes manual for it on a random website. Thought it was handy, the only one they have for the capri is the 2.8 Supplement section but here it is if it of any use for anyone! https://www.leschron...

Re: What is it with oil

I think part of it will be personal opinion surely? One 'specialist' might say only use 20/50, another may say only 10/40 and the last will tell you to leave him alone and put WD40 in it for all he cares - I would imagine if you are an 'expert - however that is defined - you would still end up disag...

Re: Wide or normal rocker cover?

Danny`s right it`s the earlier, thin type gasket. Although looking at it, would you be able to fit the wider rocker as it looks like the head only goes to the edge of the thin one if you get me? It suggests that the later head has a wider area for the gasket and putting a wide rocker on the old `th...

Re: Wide or normal rocker cover?

It's easier to tell when you have it off, but I'm gonna go with no that looks like a thin one. It has the older style of 'washers' that are meant to spread the pressure of the bolt - what year is the engine is another easy way to tell? If it's later then it will be wide, if it's pre-1982 (ish) it wi...

Re: new record for destroying a cam?

Are you using 20/50 oil by any chance Danny, I'd be very wary if so, especially in this cold weather as it becomes more treacle like and may not work its way into the necessary nooks and crannies, until it warms up but of course there may be wear on components until then so it may not be worth chan...

Re: new record for destroying a cam?

Cheers Jason, as am I! It's been away for almost six months!! Now I just have to sort all the wiring problems with the radio, clock, interior lights, washer jets, rev counter....  I've just realised - these are all on fuse 1! (apart from the rev counter obvs) so hopefully this will be a...

Re: new record for destroying a cam?

I can sympathise as I managed to destroy a cam and followers in 10 miles flat in a 2.1 pinto i had just rebuilt for a kit car. It turned out the new sump gasket i used was marginally thinner than the one that had been on there which was just enough to narrow the gap between the shortened oil pickup...

Re: new record for destroying a cam?

Fitting a 2l cam shouldnt pose any problems . Depending on how long it lasted Id be checking the lubrication . Were all the lobes shot or just a few ?, new/clean spray bar ? Were the bearing journals ok . Cam bearings can wear quite quickly , specially the middle one . I always go for oil with zinc...

new record for destroying a cam?

So! After several months in the garage the Laser comes home today. Engine largely rebuilt, head converted to unleaded, loads of oil seals replaced etc. and included in that list is a new cam... I had a 2.0 cam put in my 1.6 engine along with a 32/36 carb about 2-3years ago, and when stripping the en...
