Re: 2.8 Head Paint Colour

Stock I did the rocker's in alumminum high temp from halfords. But your using a dark alloy colour on the heads? The block is depressing me now as it still a bit gunged up but I can't do much with it in the car. Stock are your rocker covers steel? They are well polished. BTW I'm only down after fitti...

2.8 Head Paint Colour

Hi Guys, The head gasket blew on the 2.8 few weeks back. Slowing putting it back together. Decided to keep the engine in the car for a quick head skim..... well in hindsight that probably wasn't the best idea, as after the sump and 5 core plugs changed and now considering all that's holding the bloc...

Re: 2.8 Head Removal

Thanks for the advice last week! Had to take distributor and inlet off. The head gasket on driver side bank is well gone and a cylinder was full of water! Oh dear! Taking head to a machine shop to have them checked over, but I don't think they are warped. Now have to go get a set of gaskets and rebu...

2.8 Head Removal

Hi Guys, My loyal and reliable 2.8 developed a few holes in one of the core plugs dumping all the water out on the way home one night. I knew things weren't right as it was half dieing on me but temp and oil gauges were reporting everything was ok and just a few miles from home I'd thought I make it...

Re: Need advice asap - 1.6VV Engine drama has come to a head

You assume wrong truck... The car needed alot of work on the wings and bonnet. Plus its red and the paint looks tired. So a full job it is. I would dearly like to hang on to the 1.6 but the months sorting out an engine refurb is putting me off. I can spend a bit more and have a 2l already to roll an...

Re: Need advice asap - 1.6VV Engine drama has come to a head

Do you think its not that bad tck? My da described the engine last week as sounding like an old engine that has alot a wear. Its not running great and although ditching the vv carb would probably help it. The problem is I'm respraying this yoke and don't need to be balls about taking an engine out w...

Need advice asap - 1.6VV Engine drama has come to a head

I was on a couple of weeks back discussing upgrading to a new carb. Well decided to run a compression test just to make sure everything was ok. After waiting on getting a 18mm adapter I finally ran the test today. The results were around.. 1. 200 - 210 2. 190 3. 135-145 4. 200-205 As you can see cyl...

intermitted Spark Problems

Hi, Following on from my carb questions, after working on the car today it seems we have a new problem. The car is now not starting, I put a spark plug tester on to the plug then put the plug lead onto that and the spark is intermittent. Would this be a coil or condenser problem? Or maybe something ...

Re: 1.6 VV Carb Replacement

Hi guys thanks for the replies. I think I'll try doing carb first. If I get her running then I'd be happy. If Im still having troubles I'll consider doing the cam. I found this on fleabay but it looks like a manual choke. I'm after the autochoke as a direct replacement. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Weber-3...

Great Advice Peter as always. I've never had the pleasure of working on pintos so this is a set into the unknown! Unless advised otherwise I will probably get one off ebay, but I'll post a link just so I'm on the right track. Invalid... I've heard advise of changing the cam. But home much more horse...

1.6 VV Carb Replacement

Hi, Been a few months since I've been on, you know how things go when you take the eye off the ball for a bit. I'm having trouble getting this 1.6LS to run with the VV carb on it. So I'm thinking of getting a weber off a 2.0 and I believe I need the inlet manifold. My car has an autochoke so will I ...
