What oil have you got in it? Perhaps a change to a 10w/40 for the winter would help. I still think the starter is the villain of the piece though if your battery is known good. I'd check your points, dwell angle and ignition timing first.

Also is the starter getting lazy and drawing a lot of current. (Or battery getting old - they don't like the cold when old!)
