Re: Shell differences

If it's a rolling shell the Laser will have 24mm front anti roll bar, like a 2.8i. Also any original panels will have a date stamp on them somewhere. As was mentioned earlier it will either have rubber mouldings or holes in the wings and rear quarters where they attached, as well as little pins stic...

But they'll probably say they haven't the time or resources, so people will continue to get away with it :banghead:
Got help us if it gets to that stage, we're spied on enough me thinks.

Re: Marking your territory like a boss

Reminds me of the time I was doing an oil change at work a long time ago. Filled the car with oil, checked dipstick, nothing on it, added the rest of the can still nothing on dipstick. Scratched my head, looked under the car and there was 5 litres of Castrol's finest on the floor creeping towards me...

Re: Car SOS New Series

I love that tank. Beautiful. Not many fish though, can only see 3 Neons, Angel fish and are the orange ones Platys or Mollies? I used to have a tank when I was a teenager but had to get rid of it because I couldn't afford it and my 2.0S at the time. Could never get the Neons to live long, the water ...

Price. Would cost car manufacturers a lot of dosh over a production run of a vehicle.

Re: Car SOS New Series

Astra GTE Episode was good. They made references to the rarity and trouble of getting certain spares for them now.....and according to the show less than 30 still on the road! Still too much Tim pratting about and yacking and not enough actual restoration. Would have loved to see more of the Spax s...

Re: Air Filters

What oil have you got in it? Perhaps a change to a 10w/40 for the winter would help. I still think the starter is the villain of the piece though if your battery is known good. Some of the starters have an end cap/bearing holder on the end which is secred with two small headed bolts - about 7mm isf ...

Most things have a simple answer somewhere along the line. Glad / hope it's now fixed.

Re: Wanted, Weber 32/36 manual choke with manifold

My current carb is knackered and id like to upgrade it to the better weber carb, however ive tried numerous places to try and get a brand new one as i was trying to avoid 2nd hand and all the places had carbs but no manifolds, but id like to get my Capri back on the road so ill have to settle with ...

Re: Air Filters

I'd check your points, dwell angle and ignition timing first.

Also is the starter getting lazy and drawing a lot of current. (Or battery getting old - they don't like the cold when old!)

Re: DRL's.......

Automatic lights are to blame aswel. Instead of moving your hand 6 inches from the steering wheel to flick a switch people leave there lights on 'auto'. Sometimes when cleaning or for any amount of other reasons the switch can be reset to manual and the driver thinks it's still on auto and drives a...

Re: Question about Car Batteries

It should be fine Nick, it's just a bit more "Heavy Duty" than the standard one. It would be like running a 1.6 Capri which usually had the old 083 battery with the O97 as fitted to a 2.8 or 3.0 - just a higher capacity which actually would be a benefit in the winter with heater, lights, h...

Re: DRL's.......

You have to wonder what's going through some people's brains... the other night there was a lass in front of me on the North Circ at 9pm in fog, no lights at all! Flashed her a couple of times but didn't seem to realise. Overtook and she's texting... Using a phone while driving should carry the sam...

Re: DRL's.......

I don't care what sort of vehicle you have or whether it has DRLs or not....in darkness or fog or mist or rain or any combination of these TURN YOUR FUCKING LIGHTS ON DIPPED BEAM. Anything less is moronic, but the amount of cars in the last few days of daylight fog I've (not) seen without any light...

Re: wtf is this???!!!

As Mr B said it's probably either the flasher unit or the hazard light relay. Just popped out to the garage and had a look at my Laser and the relay with the same wiring colours as yours sits in a row of three relays just behind the bonnet release handle and it is the nearest one to the handle. Look...

Re: Nice car, V5, but no service history really an issue???

On buying a 30 year old car surely condition has to be the no1 important thing. I have service history for my Laser but not for my 3.0S and both have only had 4 owners including me. I will try to contact the previous owners of the S to see if any of them still have anything but I feel it's more impo...

If only it was a better colour although I see quite a few new cars are now available in what I call "Battleship Grey".

Really needs the period Rostyle wheels on it too.

Re: front wings

Repo is what I've got on mine - not been able to find anything else/they'll have to do. Hopefully at some point in the future someone will start making decent ones. I put repos on my Laser, the left one fitted quite well but the right one needed a lot of fettling around its rear edge to get it to s...

Re: front wings

I've been lucky in getting a pair of easily repairable secondhand OE wings for my S for a very reasonable price from one of the major Capri spares guys. They need a few small repair sections let in which I can do with bits off the old wings and cutting up a spare pattern wing that I have as well. Ma...

Hopefully I'll have a similar view when my Laquer red Laser is on the road in the next few months. I don't think it will ever be as good as yours though Nick - yours is stunning.

Happy new year everyone

Paul.
