Re: My New Daily

Yeah, will definitely stay on top of oil changes. Done one already. Sump capacity is about 5l, but there's almost 10l in the system, so when you change the oil, you're only really changing half of it, so it still isn't clean oil, which sucks. Luckily it's pretty easy, you can just about get to the f...

Re: My New Daily

Thanks for the nice comments guys! Who'd have guessed you'd all have liked a sporty 4 seater coupe! Yep, the "1.3" isn't at all frugal - I'm sure it drinks more than the 3.2 V6 in my Alfa did! 231 bhp and 8.5k RPM will do that I guess! Yes, tax is high ish, but it's an '04 model, so ...

My New Daily

Soo... The Alfa packed up (big end bearing). So I had to get something else. I decided I'd get something with 4 doors again, but a smaller engine, and less expensive to get repaired than the Alfa. In the end I went with a small Mazda with a frugal 1.3 engine. Obligatory "tour of local car parks...

USA

I might be going to the USA in a few weeks. Are there any parts that are only/more easily/cheaply obtainable stateside that it'd be worth me picking up? Will only have hand luggage though, so no body parts etc.

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

Can you post up a photo of the carb spindle where the cable fixes. Boggs did mine (many moons back) & it got me to the next town before giving up. I fabbed a makeshift repair then made up a new system at home. Improved return spring from a Bedford CF van carb straightened & rewound in the r...

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

Cool, thanks, will have a look. I think I have a spare pedal somewhere, so I can maybe look at it out of the car at least.

I don't think it'd be easy to alter it at the carb. It's not a lever, it's like a spindle kind of thing, and there wouldn't be enough room for anything bigger.

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

Thanks. Is there adjustment down at the pedal for that then? I hated fiddling about with that stupid clip thing, so awkward to get at!

Bike carbs, throttle pedal

I installed my bike carbs earlier in the year (40mm Keihin CVKs). Did the usual bicycle brake cable for use as the throttle cable. Seems mostly ok so far, but the pedal is sitting a lot lower, and as such there's less travel. Can't get my head around what I need to change or adjust to sort it, if th...

Re: Weather Strip Replacemet

I didn't take the door card off when I replaced the (outer) weather strips. Just carefully prised off the outer trim then the old weatherstrip pulled out of its clips. New one just pushed back in and cut to length. It was a bit fiddly getting it back in the clips but it all went in OK in the end. S...

Re: Automatic Radiator

Might be worth sticking a post in 'for sale/wanted' if you haven't already. Either that or try contacting Martin (Capri Gear), Johnocapriman, Tickover etc? I did take an auto rad off my capri but not sure if I still have it. Will have a look, but it's not in the best condition even if I do have it.

Re: What....

:agree: Some young lads feel the need to show off in front of a crowd. I suppose we were all young once (a long time ago in my case...) and we've probably all made a fool of ourselves in public at one time or another, although not necessarily in a car. I suppose all it needs to kerb this sort of be...

Re: What....

It comes across the owners don't care about their cars, but that's probably not the case at all.... I'm sure it can't be. They care enough to get it looking "good" (subjective depending on tastes, but usually they've put effort into it one way or the other), and running well, as well as t...

Re: What....

A lot of them are Ryka's cafe, Jolly Farmer pub, and Box Hill (I think) near me. I'd worry too much about damaging something, or just the amount of £ I'm burning away on tyres. A spirited exit from a meet is ok ime, if done safely, but a lot of these don't look that safe, and are a bit excessive. Th...

Re: Bike carbs - fitted and first test run

How long have you been fitting these??? I was hoping nobody would ask that . I've had them in the shed for ages, but only started getting them sorted back in the spring. Got really lazy over the summer heatwave and didn't fancy getting burnt to a crisp on the driveway. Pretty sure the o-rings...

Re: Bike carbs - fitted and first test run

I think so, yes. The butterflies seem synced up, the slides I think were too, but they only seemed to open at quite high revs and I didn't want to overdo it, especially as the cooling system is dry atm

Bike carbs - fitted and first test run

https://youtu.be/dNpLPUThAKY Running pretty badly. I can think of a few things that might be causing it, but I'm not smart enough to know what it's likely to be, can any of you clever people hazard a guess? Things I'm thinking could be issues like : -Vacuum leak (different manifold - alloy/alu with ...
