Re: Ford capri 2litre Laser 59000 miles for sale

Looking through the online agents' adverts recently I noticed there were lots of trade dealers advertising tidy cars at what I consider to be higher than expected prices, this is in comparison to the number of private sellers. I suspect that the trade has cottoned on to the potential for Capris to m...

Re: Axle location kit help

Good point there Martin. I've only used the A-Frame on my cars. Even with single leaves on a Mk3 the axle can move an inch or more. I had a nice black mark on my exhaust where the body would move to the left on hard right cornering & the tyre would catch the pipe. It took a while to find the sou...

Re: Axle location kit help

Aye Dave but you would be pushing to the limit & beyond on every corner eh... Owners have fitted location kits on multi-leaves with good effect, it just needs longer clamp-plate bolts & setting up right. They do suit singles much better. I use an A-Frame. It WILL reduce the tendency for the ...

Re: Spring rates

Agree with 340truck's post here. I have an A-Frame on mine, always have on my Capris. It is THE best modification by far before anything else, the car will handle better & thus be able to corner faster. I recall reading somewhere that the Pinto 'S' models had uprated front springs @ 130lbs - Pos...

Re: Rear brake drum removal

Undo the handbrake cable & rod from the rear arms. Take off the plastic back-stop that is fixed to the arm with a little plastic pin. Hammer the arms toward the backplate to remove any tension working on the shoes. These arms are renowned for seizing at the spindle so they might be working again...

Re: Dixie Horn queries

My notes show the switched live which activates the relay internal heavy duty contacts to be 85 and its earth to be 86 but power either way will make it work. I have airhorns on two of my vehicles wired this way, I also wired a relay for a fuel switch-over system a couple of weeks back this way. All...

Re: Make steering easier / adding power steering

I would suggest first trying 185/70 x13" on the fronts and upping to 30 psi. As previously posted; keep the car moving as you turn and select a bit of opposite lock just as the car is about to stop then carry on that turn as you start to reverse. A bit of practice with this & tight turns ar...

Re: Mk3 2.0 laser restoration advice

Don't respray the underside if it's good - original is best as long as it is rust protected, clear wax etc. I would favour keeping the side rubbers, even pro's don't always manage a perfect finish after the rivets are removed. Deffo fit bike carbs - highly recommended ! A good cam will help a treat ...

Re: How to remove glass

How I have removed the front glass: Use fingers of both hands to pull down the rubber on the inside at the top of the screen and tuck a bit of the edge under the metal surround. Do not push the rubber very hard when first starting or near corners. Work along very carefully to each side then down bot...

Re: Oh gawd!!

The water's not even over the kerb there, nae bother. Up in Scotland many moons back following my mate in his Pajero through a flood by a river & the water was up to his back bumper. The old silver Laser kept going fine. I had to remove some weed & grass from atop the starter motor later tha...

Re: Engine Swap - Pinto 1600 to Pinto 2000

The Weber will be fine with a K&N or similar & full flow exhaust on a 4-branch.
Bike carbs are good on fuel *see disclaimer, my 2.0 will do 36.5mpg at a steady 70mph. * disclaimer: WOT with the supercharger on through bike carbs does not offer good fuel economy, it's not supposed to...

Re: Engine Swap - Pinto 1600 to Pinto 2000

The 2.0 Weber carb will be o.k. but if you decide you would like more GO then don't bother with twin 40's, just get a set of bike carbs & suitable manifold. Superb modification for a Pinto, rev forever (100 in 3rd) and silky smooth at a very low tick over - Phil from MK CapriCare saw mine & ...

Re: Stainless steel exhausts

I had an ss system custom built in-situ with the car on ramps at a Powerflow agent and it's still going strong on it's second car after....at least 25 years. I would be interested in one for the spare car. Every chance there's a Pinto Capri near you which you could use to build a system on. One issu...

You can just replace the non-return valve in the servo to check for a fault with it. The push-fit white plaggy bit that the vacuum hose connects to.

Re: The downside to cleaning!

There's just a tiny little hardly noticeable spec of rust on my 2.0S, it was there when I bought it but you can't see it if you stand far enough away. Can you see if from where you are Peter?

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

That looks similar to mine although the Mikunis on mine have the throttle cable mechanism at the front end of the spindle. Maybe take your cable to a motorbike / cycle shop and see if they have anything similar but with a shorter inner cable / same length outer cable which should lift your pedal a b...
