Re: wanted: parts / tools for head swap

If you're changing the head, why not whip the manifold and carb off together, then take the carb off on the bench.

Re: my 2lt laser

Looks like you got some good shut lines there mate. What's it like down the front edge of the door? How much did you have to pull it in to get the fit so good? Just wondering, cos sometimes fitting it under a bit of tension can be the cause of some distortion along the longer flat surfaces. Is that ...

Nope!
Just been through the boxes in the garage. Found 3 that have reverse left and up, but none left and down.

Maybe one side of the matrix is blocked?
Could be sludge inside it, or maybe a leaf or something stuck on the outside.

Re: Bonnet support gas struts

Thanks all, A little concerned over the stress put into the hinges, but will probably check a few at the shows this year then go from there. At least I know I can use Capri tailgate struts. Just thinking actually? Perhaps the ones that are too weak for the tailgate would do for the bonnet? It's not ...

Re: about diff ratio

Sounds like a decent ratio for better acceleration at the expense of a little top end. As a rough guide, on a 4-cylinder Capri, put it into 4th (direct 1:1 drive) and the tacho needle should mirror the speedo needle ie. 2000 rpm in 4th = 40mph, 2500 = 50, 3000 = 60, 3500 = 70, 4000 = 80 and so on. A...

Bonnet support gas struts

I've seen quite a few Capris with the bonnet supported by a pair of rams, similar to the tailgate ones. As my Capris tend to spend a lot of time with the bonnets open I'm considering fitting some, however;............. I've seen many variations on the theme. I don't know which struts to use. I don't...

Re: 1984 LS: standard or modified? Show of hands please!

Personally I'd debadge it completely, keep it looking fairly tame/standard on the outside and tickle the engine/brakes/suspension a little. Some banded steels would suit it too.

Re: 3.0S V 2.8i

Made this point before (even though I've owned my 2.8i for 21 years now!)......forget BHP, it's low down torque you want for British roads and the 3 litre wins that one hands down.

Ideal Capri??? How about a 3.0S with 2.8i suspension and brakes?

Re: a few general help questions

Yes, was lighter, but also stronger, thanks to the 2" box section roll bar.
Handled really well and I used it a lot to pull a towing dolly with other Capris on around Norfolk!

Re: a few general help questions

Are you copying the 2.8i on Dan's site? Reg is 'VEG....... That's pearlescent white. Been around KLCC for years. Was previously white with yellow tiger stripes back in the early '90s Whilst you're on that site, have a look for my Capris. Should be my white 2.8i with the blacked out windows (still go...

Re: Some unknown too me things in the capri..

If the 'kill switch' works then don't get rid of it! It's an extra line of security that will, at the least, slow down a thief! Don't tell anyone else it's there though. Also, just make sure its not likely to get kicked by a passenger. Not ideal, having the engine stop if you're in the middle of a d...

Now, I've known for years how a diff works and it is simple when you look at it.....but no way could I have explained it like that!
My lad, Tom, has just watched that film clip and understood the principle perfectly.
What a gem! Thanks for letting us know about it.

Re: im new here, hows everybody ?

Hi Jason, I found another post that says you're in Norfolk. Whereabouts? I'm in Northwold, near Thetford, Nat is up near Walsham somewhere I think and there are a couple around the BSE area of Suffolk, so hopefully we can help you out a bit. In fact, I've just picked up a 2.0GL that I'm intending to...

Re: Power Steering

Seems a little bit 'having the cake and eating it' to me to be honest, cos loss of feel is the immediate result of fitting PS on a lighter 4-cyl Capri. Only thing I could suggest is fit wider wheels and tyres which will give more resistance and hence the illusion of 'feel'. Lowering the suspension, ...

If you're going to swap cams again why not put a milder but still uprated one in. Mind you, it's more cost I s'pose.
Surely Stock or someone can advise on what to use?

Re: theif

Bit confused as you say yours is '83 and they had 'Capri' stickers? Is it the blue oval Ford badge you need, or did you have a chrome 'Capri' badge, as originally fitted to Mk2s. If the latter, I may be able to help, but will need to rummage in the garage a bit. Look at the 'Father & son Capris'...

Re: Brakes

I await correction..........but...................the M/C is self contained and shouldn't need any seal between it and the servo should it? I've never seen one there? The servo is merely a vacuum assistance that puts a bit of extra 'push' behind the actuating rod when you push on the pedal. The pipe...
