Re: Wing removal

<t>Not just the spot welds at the top - It has a couple of spot welds at the bottom where it meets the sill and also on the inside flat section that meets the A post plus it is welded on around the headlamp bowl and then there's a couple of bolts where it joins the front valance. They can be removed...

Beastie the bar steward eh?

<t>Sounds like a real pain at the moment. Assuming that it cannot possibly be the fan belt or alternator pulleys to me the culprit sounds clutch related, despite it being newish. Did you check it over when you swapped the gearboxes? I think I'd try a new clutch and release bearing and see if that ma...

Wiring

<t>Looking back at your first post you said the car was running and then a couple of hours later it wouldn't. I reckon it will be in the wiring somewhere - something disconnected or is shorting to earth. Make sure the small wire on the positive terminal of the battery is still in place and check for...

The bolsters

<t>were just starting to go and needed a lttle bit of remedial work on the door side of each seat. I reinforced them with an old headrest cover and then swapped them from one seat to the other so they are now next to the transmission tunnel where they will take less wear and tear - that's the theory...

Is the steering stiff if the car is jacked up both sides with wheels off the ground?

Re: Is it just me...

Rich, it's a Mk111 Cortina. Also in there is a blue dolomite, a Triumph 2000/2500 and something from the Hillman Hunter family.
Guess it was filmed in the UK somewhere.
(n.b. for car lovers - it's not worth watching the vid for the cars they don't feature that much!)

Stripped cleaned and partly reupholstered my Recaros and they've not come up too bad, in facr they look better in the flesh than the pics. Drivers side before, which was the worst http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1208122766.JPG and how the front has ended up, drivers side on the right http://www.n...

Two newbies within a couple of days!
Good to have you back. The car looks quite clean.
Your ticking might be a timing adjustment or just a worn cam follower if you've caught it early enough. Worth checking soonish though.

At 2000rpm

my 2.0 is slightly lower than yours but it's higher on tickover! Mine doesn't appear to smoke and although it uses a drop of oil it's not significant so I guess its OK. Are you burning any oil?
