Re: this could be the new capri in years to come

Just my humble opinion, but I think it looks like most other modern cars, cumbersome and ugly.

Re: Accelerator Pump

Thanks very much guys. Invaluable info. I have a better understanding of the accelerator pump now, and it's purpose and can be sure that mine is working as it should. Superb.

Re: Accelerator Pump

There's no need, thanks very much Steve. Holding it in front of you in the shape of a V, then the one on the right will be the blank I assume.

Re: Accelerator Pump

Do you think that fuel should be squirting from both sides then Nige?

Re: Accelerator Pump

I understand Steve. And in doing so, that avoided the fuel pump cranking for an age to get the fuel back to the carb, which had flashed off. Makes perfect sense. Strange how my car will start first time after being stood for a week, but after being stood for two or three days needs a couple of goes ...

Re: Rev Counter

Thanks for your replies, will do a little more fiddling (especially with the connection on the coil as mentioned), but I agree that it may be best to try another unit. As regards to the avatar, I watched a George & Mildred episode entitled Just The Job recently, where George is a traffic warden....

Re: Accelerator Pump

Great explanation to my question, thank you Steve. Yes, the choke flaps do snap shut when the throttle is pressed, I witnessed that earlier. To be honest, I kept thinking back to your comment on another thread about you injecting a little fuel into the carb (through the air filter) when your car has...

Re: Rev Counter

Yes, all other gauges are ok, and the rev counter does not flicker, it is steady. I was originally thinking that the rev counter itself was at fault, just wanting to see if it could be something else first. I have changed the coil recently, but the rev counter is the same before and after. It always...

Re: Accelerator Pump

Thank you guys for you help, interesting stuff. I should have said that I have the standard carb on my 2.0 laser, 32/36 Weber. I am satisfied that the accelerator pump is working as it should in that case. Why does it have a jet on both sides though, if only one side squirts? My reason for the origi...

Accelerator Pump

I have a couple of questions about the accelerator pump on the carb, just to make it clearer for myself. Am I right in thinking that, with the engine off, and air filter off, if you twist the throttle linkage, you should see the accelerator pump jets squirt fuel down the carb? I did this earlier and...

Re: Rev Counter

Well I cleaned up the fuses, connectors and spades (although I didn't take the fusebox out and do the underneath), and it's still the same. Rev counter often reads obviously low, but sometimes will read correctly, usually when the car is warm. Anything else I can try?

Re: poor starting/over fueling advice needed please.

Are you able to verify if there is fuel in the carb. There has been a couple of threads recently with problems mentioned similar to yours, and there is some talk of modern fuels flashing off much more quickly than they used to. Check also that fuel is not leaking from the carb, this could be a reaso...

Re: Storage Prep: Things that get forgotten

You might want to consider mouse traps of some kind. You will be surprised at just how many of the little blighters make their homes in an unused car, they can make a right mess.

Re: interior lights

It still may be worth having another go at the fusebox, ensuring that the spade terminals are also cleaned up, and check the underneath also.

I have a lot of experience with stuff such as this, and similar. I'd consider getting them produced to a good standard if enough people would like them?

Re: Car sticker

You can actually print, and make, your own car stickers at home -

There are online firms which will do it for you also, in a similar fashion to those personalised canvas/mousemat/cups, etc. items

Re: well thats fucked it.

There are plenty of repair shops which specialise on older vehicles though, and those which are 'classic conscious' too. But for one to simply focus on Capri's, there just wouldn't be enough work or income from a lone car.
