Re: I know the unleaded issue has been covered but reassure
I remember reading somewhere, and certainly in my own personal experience, seems to be true - the 1.6’s seem to suffer more with this than the 2.0. No idea why or how. But a mate of mine had to swap out a burnt valve in his 1.6 just the other week. He never used additives. Could be coincidence, but ...

Re: Cylinder compression pressure high
he does have a sensible head on his shoulders with one educational and well presented explanation. yep, kudos Glyn. You explained it that well even I understood it! Cheers. So does a standard cam overlap the inlet valve into the compression stroke? Or is that only the case for performance items? (u...

Re: Cylinder compression pressure high
If the inlet valve shuts earlier on the induction stroke, does that not mean less compression?
Or does the inlet valve stay open for a short time into the compression stroke?? If this is the case I kinda understand..
just curious!

Re: Type 3 Quick shift
I'm running a type 3 and have given it some thought also. But decided it's good enough as is and didn't want to run the risk of ruining it! Good guide here though if you fancied it..

Mine took some dicking around to get it right too.
Try swapping the rear hanger so it slots into the rubber the other way round. I think I had mine the wrong way round to begin with and had same problems as you.

Re: contact points gap/running issues
0.5mm Also the points gap altering at all throws the ignition timing out, this is why they need constant checking. Set your points then set the timing. Agree. Altering points and plug gaps can throw out the ignition timing. I know, I nearly melted an exhaust manifold 'assuming' it would stay roughl...

+1. He knows his onions does t’lad.
I haven’t run a choke for years, although I can’t say it made a noticeable difference in performance or economy.. except when it was cold.
It won’t struggle starting in winter, just give it a few pumps. Mine did, even with timing at 2 degrees BTDC.

Re: pinto oil pump. how to???
Too right there is! When putting my engine together a few years back, I was trying to do the prime the oil system from the aux pulley with a drill trick.. Didn’t have the dizzy in, as why the hell would you need that in, right?? Wrong. I was so close to tearing it all down before I realised that lit...

Re: ball joint splitter advice
Yea, agree with above. I borrowed my neighbours to remove my tca’s last weekend. If you’re careful you shouldn’t even damage the boot, unlike the pickle fork variety which usually rags ‘em up (not an issue if you’re replacing them.) I find putting the nut a few threads back on also helps the process...

Thanks for the advice guys. I’ll wire them into top and bottom, and see how it goes. Glyn that’s a very creative solution mate! MOT is actually next month now you mention it..
At this present moment in time, I’m more worried about the huge hole I just poked through in the front wheel well. Arse!

to the 2” lowered people
I’ve got the struts out today, and have a set of -2” coil springs. As expected, they’re just gonna drop out when I jack up the car. I’ve got a hold of some wire with the intention of wiring them into the cups. I originally planned to wire them in to both upper and lower cup, but after a bit of net b...

Arghh I’m getting sucked in! You never fail to unite members on this forum Dan, which isn’t a bad thing I guess! I’ve got to agree with Dave here. Going back to 1.6 cam - waste of time and money, and you’re gonna loose performance. If it IS rattling like a good un, check the spray bar isn’t blocked,...

Re: Very Early 1600 with factory forged rods. Free to colle
I’m slowly gathering together enough in spare parts to make a nice 1.6 pinto..
If only I were nearer! Can you use those rods on later 1600 pintos without machining?
Also, if the bores are smaller than a later 1600 pinto, how can you use 2.0 pistons?
Just curious!
