It's unbelieveable isn't it. I'm constantly amazed by how great this stuff is.

Re: Tappity engine

Is it really common practice to silicon the rocker cover gasket? Can make it a right pain to get off and clean up when you wish to change it surely. I've always just put it on dry, never had an issue so far.

Re: fitting capri fixing around work?

It will be a problem until you retire Chris unfortunately. But I guess you only have around 50 years of work left?! One of the reasons that so many projects go unfinished, they just take so long when fitting in around other stuff. However, I'm sure you will get there, you sound determined enough. It...

Re: capri broken down !! please help

Isn't that a standard distributor with an electronic points kit fitted? (Someone will correct me if not, hard to tell as the 'interesting' bit is just out of shot). If so, then the constant 12v wire from the bulkhead should connect to the red wire in the pic. And the ballast wire in your existing lo...

Re: Tappity engine

It was just the normal Valvemaster which we were discussing which seems to have been discontinued then? Interesting that the Plus is still available from them direct.

I did read on the internet somewhere that it's being discontinued by Castrol. Whether that's internet rubbish (there's a lot of that around!), I don't know.

Re: Tappity engine

Thanks for the info Steve, as informative as ever. It is a tricky one, to use or not to use. Everyone has a different answer to this which doesn't make it easy! So far I use no additive and normal unleaded, car runs great and always has. Timing is also 8 degrees with no pinking. I've had it higher a...

Re: Tappity engine

yep, I`ve also been using Valvemaster since 4* was phased out and I`ve never had to adjust valves in that time, so I`m quite happy to keep using it. That's a good advertisement for using it that is Steve. Although I don't, I have often wondered about it. Couple of questions if you don't mind, are y...

Re: capri broken down !! please help

Thanks Steve, I thought (and maybe still think) that it was one of those electronic points replacement kits, in which case I think with those you leave the coil as it is, and give a new 12v feed to the module (often from that spare bulkhead wire).

Far easier to stick with points :)

Re: capri broken down !! please help

Shouldn't the existing coil be wired through the ballast resistor though (as standard), and the new constant 12v (i.e. spare wire at the bulkhead) connect to the electronic ignition. Unless I'm missing something, if the existing coil has been given a constant 12v supply for some reason, then that's ...

I got that impression also from the free online preview which you can look at. I'll still be getting it though I think.

Re: capri broken down !! please help

There is an excellent tutorial over on the CP technical archive on how to fit these electronic ignition kits, it's definitely worth a look just to check that yours is as it should be. If you're not a member it's worth joing to view it, it's free - http://www.capripower.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/7...

Re: Side Decals

In keeping with what Andrew says above, a super hot summer's day (unlikely I know!) helps, you know, when the body is just too hot to touch and sitting inside the car makes you melt, stickers come off far easier when it's like that.
