Re: 1.6L restoration
Nice to see what has been done, I suggest a good dose of cavity rust protection once the paint has been applied. Dont be tempted to do it before hand as a lot of these products contain silicones. The other thing I suggest is every bolt and nut gets a dose of Copper grease on the threads and contact...

Re: History of D754NDB
You can contact DVLA and request information on a vehicle, used to cost around £5 I think, not sure of current costs. https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla Unfortunately, Swansea will no longer release this information without a reason to do so - and unfortunately researching history is ...

1.6L restoration
Hi all, I've been reasonably quiet recently and you'll have noticed no updates on my Capri. Last summer, I decided that as autumn approached, it was time for her to come off the road and receive attention to a number of areas bodywork-wise. The only thing to do was to bite the bullet and get everyth...

Re: Electrical Fire
Finally!! After dropping the dash yet again and removing as much as I could -including the dash pods- to investigate the wiring, beyond the melty but I couldn't see anything untoward on any of the other circuits at all. After realising that the washer bottle was on fuse one, along with the clock, i...

Re: Happy Birthday Mr Tom
Thanks all. I've been quiet on here recently! 590 is due for some welding over the winter although exactly when it'll be done is another question. I'm planning on getting a nice few runs out whilst I still can. Nice one Tom. 590 is a credit to you. Lovely Capri.! Can you drive up Muswell Hill one d...

Re: Leaded fuel
Yes, Platts of Marlow is where I went. It's a bit out of the way, but it's actually quite a nice drive. Popped in a few times now. The cost is extortionate but I go there once every year so I can live with it.

Re: 1.6 Laser fuel filter & hose
I've fitted R6 hose to my capri from the motor factors. It cost something like £1.50/ft. Isn't R9 for high pressure applications?

Re: Capri gearbox oil leak
Exactly that. My gearbox is always mildly incontinent, and it can look like a leaky diff as the oil travels some considerable way.

What that means is that Danny can keep buying Capris until his drive is full... And after that he'll just start parking them on the tennis courts...

Late reg laser
Just been looking through some pics on flickr of Glasgow in the 90s, this one includes an E-reg capri - unusually it's not a brooklands runout etc but a humble 2.0 laser!

Re: Fire Extinguisher Location
Mine is currently mounted in the boot, but I take your points. The rear footwell behind me is filled with a rolled-up waterproof and jumper all the time, so I could stick it under there without too much difficulty. (I never have rear seat passengers).

Re: Rotary Tool - Aldi
Ooo now that is a good price, there's now an Aldi near me that sells the special offer tools etc so may just have to pick one up later.
For £17 it's not going to be top notch and indestructible, but it'll do fine for weekend use on the car etc.

Re: Handbrake warning light not working ..
If you have the dash out try applying voltage to the tracks leading to it - I found that my lamp holder was a little temperamental and it would only work with a bit of tin foil added. Try swapping the lamp holder between the oil switch and handbrake warning light. If the radio or lower dash are out ...

Glad everyone is able to get out and about! I joined in today, took 590 for a drive as hadn't been out in almost two weeks having been laid up with the dreaded lurgy.

At that price, you can't not buy one! They won't be top quality gear of course, but they will I'm sure be good enough for light duty use at home. I picked up a set of bolt extractors on sale for a tenner that was posted on another forum - just because of the price being so good - worked a dream when...
