Re: Capri 2.0 Pinto Carb issues

Before paying out for a carb I would go through some basic checks first. I assume you have got a workshop manual to help you with the things I'll mention. 1. Has it got a spark. 2. Is sufficient fuel being pumped up to the carb. 3. In view of the misfire is the distributor cap clean inside and out. ...

Re: 1 owner Laser

This car was listed at this month's sale at Anglia Car Auction. http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/en/classic-auctions/results/results-from-saturday-8-april-2017/1987-ford-capri-16-laser/ It didn't sell but I think quite a bit of DAT (dealer added tax) has been added to whatever price was agreed out...

Re: Project Front Valance Refurbishment

What a transformation, looking better than ever. Little tip - give the area behind the repairs a good undersealing or spray of waxoyl just to stop any grot going through. Just finished the valance on my laser at the weekend but that had 3" missing each end so is a patchwork quilt behind it. Not...

Re: MOT stuff

It's amazing (horrifying) the number of younger generation MOT testers that don't have a clue with older cars. I bet this jacking issue is why so many Capris have the floor strengtheners mangled too. Quite a few older cars need to actually be jacked on the front suspension for wear in balljoints to ...

Re: Capris, Escorts, Grannies, skids, and angry cyclists.

Great to watch but some of those drivers ought to think carefully - it only takes one efficious copper to see the clips and there they are, registrations displayed and evidence to nick them for dangerous driving.

Don't start me on about cyclists though!

Re: Small seepage of brake fluid.

It may be the right kit and Bigg Red is a well known brake expert company - i got my seals from there. Ford used several makes of master cylinder over the years and you will find the make stamped on the side of the casing;- mine was a Girling but they could be ATE or Lucas. Probably best to find out...

Re: Smokey engine

Just thought i'd update everyone on this: Fitted the new "top hat" CVH seals today (without taking the head off), the old seals had been baked hard and were crumbling away, some of them weren't even seated properly! Fitted the brand new, better designed ones and both issues have been tota...

Re: Small seepage of brake fluid.

I'm afraid to tell you that that's coming out of the master cylinder me thinks. If the master cylinder isn't that old you may get away with a seal kit to repair the problem. edit;- make sure the fluid level is OK and you won't have to panic about doing it straight away but obviously do get it done a...

Re: Accelerator pedal

Have you got the right throttle cable on it?

Be careful bending the pedal, I put my foot under a capri one once to try and lift it up to slow a fast tickover and the pedal rod snapped.

Re: If you are thinking of buying Accuspark triple ground plugs....DONT!

Have they sent you ones with the washer seating instead of the correct taper seat? IMHO with all cars just stick to NGK or the ones the manufacturer recommends and just change them a bit more often if you so desire. They didnt come with washers, though the picture on the auction that they use has t...

Bristol had loads of its own identifiers ;- AE EU FB HU HW HY OU TC WS

Nowadays anything registered west of Swindon seems to start with W.

Re: My first capri, A-REG 2.0 S restoration

My dad worked in Highbridge near Burnham on Sea (I lived there for a year when I was a kid) most of his cars were YA - YD. His last was a Merc 300SE which was B600VYD. This was exported to Hong Kong after he died. My first Capri, which dad got from his company, was OFB which is a nearby Bristol regi...

Re: 3.0s. On eBay

It doesn't exactly seem to have flown out of their showroom door whereas a correct one in that colour probably would have. What's it worth? I don't know but it would probably cost £2-3 thousand to get the strengthening done and the door sorted out professionally and then would you be left with a res...

Re: Front antiroll bar

I'm running out of ideas but there must be a straightforward explanation.

All I can suggest now is lay on the floor and get someone else to turn the steering side to side and see if you can see anything moving. The only other thing is to perhaps try a 2.8 or late Laser 24mm roll bar.

Re: Front antiroll bar

Seems then the roll bar is on OK with correct bushes and torqued up. The mystery is why it is pulling the bar over. I assume the car, as it's a 3.0S, has power steering with the rack ridgidly bolted to to the crossmember and that the crossmember itself is torqued up tight. When turning the wheel the...
