Re: 3.0s. On eBay

I see it's now up to £17,600. I saw the car in the metal at Uxbridge Car Show a couple of years ago and whilst nice, it isn't concours in the way your Ghia is Gary. Re the missing chassis plate I also can't see the vin no stamped in the inner wing where I thought it would be on a 1978. I thought th...

Re: shortening a handbrake cable

I had to shorten a Sierra handbrake cable when building my kit car - albeit for a drum brake. I carefully cut the cable at the required length using a very sharp chisel and wacking the cable when it was placed flat on an anvil. This gave a clean cut with minimal fraying. I then cut up an 8.8 hardnes...

Re: Starting issue after long drive

With a flat battery you should be getting up to 14v with the engine running as the alternator should be on full output to charge the battery. I suggest you try charging your battery overnight to see if it holds a charge and then re check the voltages. With those voltages you give I'd say there is a ...

Re: New dented exhaust worth replacing?

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. I won't go through all the hassle of replacing it and just fit it with the dents. I shouldn't be too worried about it but it's annoying something supposedly new is damaged. See you next weekend James, will email or call you before the end of the week. ...

Re: Starting issue after long drive

As Nigecapri said, with the engine running there should be a voltage of between 13 and 14.5 volts at the terminals. One basic question no one has asked yet - do you have an ignition light when you turn the key to position 2? With alternator failure usually you lose the ignition light altogether if t...

I'll ring you on Tuesday as I hadn't finished shopping around and need a few other bits as well.

Re: Handbrake cable

! Hi Paul, Great, a nice easy fix. It's a shame that the poly bushes are so expensive for what they are.... Andrew.[/quote] Yes they are rather dear for what they are. Can't find a rubber one listed so going for the flow flex one at £11.95. How they justify charging an additional £4.95 for postage ...

Re: Handbrake cable

Just figured out why the problem is there - the bush in the centre of the diff is almost completely worn away. Handrake rod dancing about all over the place. New polybush being ordered!

Cheers Andrew for your reply.

Handbrake cable

I've notice with my Laser that even with the car jacked up and the spring hanging down that the handbrake cable seems to rest on top of the spring. The car has been converted to single leaf. The cable and all linkages are free and in good condition. I just wondered if this was correct as I would hav...

Re: Stolen from Plymouth

The Tibbe keys used on Fords from the early 90s up until a year or so ago are known to be pretty crap anyway - you can get a pick set for about 20 quid and I'm told they are very easy. All the fancy modern security systems roll over once a physical key goes in! When new they can be a bit more diffi...

I agree, he was my favorite too. Sad news which didn't get the headlines he deserved with all the horrible goings on in Manchester. :(

Glad to hear you're getting another one. See if you can find someone local to you or the car that you are looking at and knows about Capris to go with you. Two pairs of eyes are often better than one.

Oh no, not another one. Has it come to the point that we all have to chain them to concreted in posts after everytime we use them. Hope your mate gets it back and in one piece. Re: Oily cam belt

If I was still teaching mechanics in the college I would say that any oil contaminated belt should be renewed as a matter of course. If however your leak has just suddenly happened today or yesterday you might get away with thoroughly cleaning everything with Gunk, Hyperclean or some other degreaser...

Re: Running on

When you switch it off make sure you don't rev it beforehand and also make sure your idle speed isn't too high. It shouldn't really happen on a 1.6 with the VV or single choke weber replacement as they have a fuel cut off valve on the carb which is supposed to stop this. Also check mixture isn't too...
