Re: High Beam Warning
There were a number of changes which have been bought in over the last few years. Amazingly airbag warnings weren't an mot fail until fairly recently! I know constructions & use regs mandate a high beam warning but I'm not surprised that the checking has only recently been enforced. It seems tha...

Re: mk 3 3.0 battery
As said all 2.8is had battery on lh side when viewed from the front. All others had it on the right. There's a reinforcement plate which is attached on the wheel arch side of the inner wing where the battery tray is attached to the inner wing too. This is difficult to reproduce so generally will be ...

Re: High Beam Warning
Have you actually managed to swap the bulb out Steve? I must admit if asked I would have said that it would be nigh on impossible or at least take longer than dropping the lower dash trims, taking the clock surround off & pulling the cluster forward on the wiring. As has been said I'm also happy...

Re: Whats the solution to damaged or missing rubber trim
I've got a mate with a bodyshop so generally scrounge bits of paint for trim etc - never notice the brand but will have a look next time in there. I know it's not a high street brand anyway.

So what is your warning light connected to then?
Sounds like it's not the L terminal!

Get about 2/3 of max output on idle so ideally need to know how much load is being applied.
Unless the alternator is overloaded you won't see any brightening of lamps as it will be in regulation.

Not a clue but from memory the pas pumps are generally slightly over driven so could base it on the pulley you have on the pas pump?

Re: Wiring oddities
The spade type ones had two big spades for the B+ connection (spliced in the harness) & the small one is the L terminal which goes to the ground side of the charge warning lamp. They have two spades as a single one is not sufficient to carry the current - also there is an element of redundancy t...

Re: Whats the solution to damaged or missing rubber trim
The quarter & wing trims are held on with studs & nuts which invariably rust to oblivion. Depending on the state of them then they can normally be repaired using m4 screws & polyester resin (that's how I did mine). The door ones are screws & clips. The clips are available but not che...

Re: adjusting the bite point..
You need to slacken the cable which means screwing the nuts back 'up' the cable threaded portion (towards the pedal). Should have some free play at the pedal end when correctly adjusted 5-10mm ish.

Re: Wiring oddities
One more for luck! Don't discount the possibility of a 'new' alternator being faulty..it's most likely reconditioned & I've seen plenty of supposedly reconned alternators & starters which are apparently new & shiny but nothing more than expensive paperweights! There is also the factor th...

Ps - 13v is a little low, I'd expect more like 14.5V from a cold start but the battery will no doubt be dragging a fair bit if it's been standing about & fiddled with....trying to find the source of electrical problems!

Re: Wiring oddities
Make sure that the stud you're pushing the terminal onto is actually a terminal & not just the protruding end of a screw! It's not just voltage that drives the charge warning lamp - there are other factors within the reg which can cause the charge warning lamp to illuminate. It could be an inter...

A mate had an axle for a Corsair rebuilt by Topcats Racing down near Oxford somewhere. They did a good job, have been in the car & it's quiet as a mouse with no obvious backlash.

Re: Wiring oddities
If you pull the wiring off the back of the alternator & switch the ignition on do you still get the alternator warning lamp? If you do then it's an issue in the harness (short to ground), if it goes off then could point to an internal problem with the alternator itself. Just an aside - do you ha...
