Re: Ford Fiesta - The End

Same here Nick, we have a little Ecoboost Fiesta now, lovely little car but doesn't have the character of the previous Fiesta plus from what I'm told the timing belt on the Ecoboost engine actually runs through the engine oil and that just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.... I'm lucky with my C...

Re: Alternator or bushes

Hi Danny, I have had good results when just renewing the bushes on alternators, the bushes are quite cheap on Ebay and it's always worth a punt especially if money is a bit on the slim side, I have renewed bushes on the Bosch, Femsa and Lucas alternators and it's literally a couple of screws to remo...

Just when I thought I'd heard it all...

I had to post this because I simply cannot believe the utter stupidity of some people, let me explain... Colleague from work calls me today and says Wayne I have got a big problem with my car, I ask what's wrong, she says everytime I fill my car up at the petrol station I can smell petrol, what's wr...

Re: Ford Fiesta - The End

My partner bought a little Fiesta in 2001 that was 6 months old, so second hand, in 21 years of ownership it never broke down once, we had to 'retire' the car this year because of the poxy ULEZ zone, it retired still having it's original exhaust, serpentine belt, alternator and loads more original ...

You are welcome Michael, it is extremely strong stuff and you don't get the 'fogging stain' around the join either like you do with super glue.

Heater hose connections

Hi everyone,

Quick question, can anyone tell me which one of the two plastic heater hose stubbs is the inlet to the heater? I have been told it's the top one of the two but according to the Haynes manual the bottom one is the inlet :headscratch:

Re: Brake line colour

Any recommendations for the colours? Hi Wayne, The dark green is very similar to Ford Pine Green (that's what I've used on mine). https://i.postimg.cc/hv4QCqZm/107-Brakes-14-Brake-Pipe.jpg I would say that the other green looks like a generic olive green. Andrew. Hey Andrew, I went with your advice...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Well everyone I think I know for sure what the issue is with my car now, today I went to start her up and as usual she wouldn't go, so I disconnected all the fuel lines on the car from the pump and connected 1 fuel line from a petrol can to the fuel pump intake and cranked the engine over, absolutel...

Re: Whining sort of noise....?

I had a similar problem when I bought my Capri. It was a really loud road noise like as if you were dragging a garden roller behind the car. The garage I took it too said it was the diff so I took it off and drove it over to Southern Axles in Watford. The replaced all the bearings in it as apparent...

Re: Whining sort of noise....?

I have also fitted bearings at home substituting a big hammer and length of scaffold pole for a press but a press is probably best practice! Like Peter, I've also changed a bearing myself. Just be careful when removing the old bearing not to grind a groove in the half shaft with the angle grinder. ...

Re: Whining sort of noise....?

To answers Tom's questions it probably is more of a drone as Paul suggested rather tha a fluctuating noise, and appears probably att around 45-50 Ish as a start? I'd also say it gets louder the faster it goes... How difficult are half shafts to change and I can consider changing it to see if it wor...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Hi all, She doesn't have a fuel filter between the tank and pump, only between the pump and carb. I have a new pump (after market pump) in the box ready to go and the fuel pump is easy to change on an Essex engine (famous last words!) So I'm gonna try that first, ultimately an electric pump is the w...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Hi Wayne, probably best to try another fuel pump, it is possible that yours is under performing and/or faulty. Either way it definitely needs ruling out. Perhaps when the fuel evaporates in the pump if effects the internals of the pump in some way, but I agree with you mate, tbh I should have chang...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Wayne, it is easy to understand, when used frequently the fuel remains in the carb, it doesn't have time to evaporate. But, when left it does evaporate, and when this happens the fuel pump needs to replenish the carb with fuel when cranking. But that process is failing on your car. Try the experime...

Re: Electric fuel pump

Thanks for your reply Wayne. My carb will be empty also after 2 or 3 weeks or so, that's quite normal, it evaporates. However, after a few seconds of cranking the fuel makes its way to the carb (can be seen in the inline filter as you mention) and the car will start. Takes a little longer as I've s...
