Re: New clutch, new problems

Hope this doesn't sound patronising, but define 'incredibly hot'. Petrol engines do get very hot very quickly. Are there any other signs of head gasket failure? I haven't had a chance to go round the car completly but their was a very definite smell that my dad put down to head gasket, but I need t...

New clutch, new problems

I replaced the clutch and I took it up and down a small lane (about 500m to the top and back in total) and whilst the heat gauge dial thing isn't working, you could tell the engine was incredibly hot without touching it. I think it needs a head gasket but could air pockets in the radiator be the cau...

Re: few questians for my 1.6 laser

The rear brakes will have loads of little coils on it to help pull it together so pay attention to them when you take it off, even take a photo if it helps and you will definately need a clamp to help hold it in place whilst you clip on the springs to the new brakes

Re: New to Capri... queries.

if you have any worries about using unleaded then you can convert the cylinder head to one from a sierra like I did, view this for more on using unleaded, but in the mean time you can use lead pellets. the reason why unleaded is bad for these cars is because the lead reduced the operating tempature ...

Re: MK3 Clutch replacement

Its a bugger to do but for getting ready make sure you have somewhere to set the gearbox and stuff and keep a bag of sand handy if the oil spills, mops it up so that you only need to brush it up, on removing the gearbox it self make sure you have a friend (a buff one at that) to help catch it, and w...

Re: is there a moddern alternative to the capri???!!

Yeah, nice bit of thread resurrection. It's interesting because since 2002 things have changed even more. All the big manufacturers have given up on this segment of the market now; Calibra, Probe, Fiat Coupe, Cougar, Puma, Peuguot 406 coupe (remember that?) all gone now. They were the modern versio...

Wing mirror painting over stainless steel

I got two new wing mirrors, ones plastic so i know what to do with that, but the other is stainless steel. How do you get that ready because as far as i can tell you need wet n dry paper rated at 400 and etch on primer or something like that, also i need black spray cans so which ones match a black ...

Re: Exhaust replacement?

Yeah if you replicate the original design in SS then the difference shouldn't be huge, especially once, as JC says, there is a bit of soot built up. It comes down to the different resinating properties - the SS should sound better without being loud if thats what you want. thanks for the response, ...

Exhaust replacement?

I know this has been asked tons of times but none of the questions that i want which is, if I were to switch to a stainless steel system, is it possible to maintain the sound of the originals? mine have never been changed but the whole pipe is beyond tired and this will be an everyday car so it coul...

Yes, you are babbling a bit. Then again so am I, although that's cos I had a couple of beers at lunchtime (Friday! ) What is your exact problem and what are you trying to achieve? You are after some new mirrors right? Is this because the passenger side one has rusted, gone wobbly and fallen ...

Re: ford capri door/wing mirrors the same as mk2 escorts?

Yeah. For my passenger side I got a repro mk2 one and it was same as original. Not sure what the deal is with the drivers side adjustable one though. I know this may be starting to sound a wee bit stupid since i'm asking about wing mirrors but the old wing mirrors should be salvageable, so with the...
