Re: Are speed cameras safe?
The answer is in the terminology. Speed LIMIT not speed TARGET. It's that simple. There is no "justification" for exceeding a speed limit, if you do so (and I do, I'm not being holier than thou) then you must accept the consequences whatever they may be. That can be as simple as fine and p...

Re: Spark plugs
I'd have the head off that if it were mine. What my dad used to call a "de-coke". Even if only because the spark plug recesses must be full of crud judging by the plug body! Clean it all up inside and out, re-grind valves, maybe a mild cam upgrade if you haven't already got one, new gasket...

Re: 2.0 pinto cuts out when warm and won’t restart
Have you checked that the choke flaps open when the car is warm? All the symptoms you describe point to over rich mixture ie flaps stuck closed. It’s a struggle to get the car up to temperature at the moment, what little running it does the flaps do not open fully, is there a way to do some sort of...

Re: LSD
Also, please Bux, before my OCD goes into overdrive, could you please pop the bonnet on your car and count the spark plugs? If there are 6 would you mind awfully removing the 'Laser' bit from your car details. In all my years of Capri ownership I've never seen a 2.8i Laser, but I've met hundreds of...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)
Junk the electronic ignition, go back to points. Whatever you are using, Ford from a pinto sierra or aftermarket like accuspark, it's not working properly. I know this sounds like I'm some kind of dinosaur but the capri pinto was designed to run on points. Whenever I've been tracing running problems...

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)
What you show in your pictures is engine timing. If not right it won't run at all (although 1.6 pintos will run very badly with it one tooth on the belt out). Linked but not the same is ignition timing which you need to sort with a strobe light.

Re: cutting out problem (2.0 - 32/36 weber)
Ignition timing problem BUT before you set it thorough ignition system service as detailed above. Then when the timing is set and you can see the mechanical and vacuum advance is working you can set the idle mixture up. You don't need a gas analyser, do a search for the method on here, its easy. The...

Re: Vibration on my 2.8
2.8s are lovely to drive and were, in their day, very quick cars. To get that, they had to be set up perfectly so think a decent top end spruce up. Plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, the lot. Valve clearances (quickly mess up tune if they're wrong on the 2.8),timing, then set up the fuelling (which...

Re: Car smells rich on idle.
Could anyone tell me what the correct size idle jets I would need for weber 32/36 for a 1600, I believe mine is still jetted for 2.0l tried to turn mixture screw down but doesn't run wright. Thanks in advance. Screwing the idle mixture screw will not change the way the car drives. It will only chan...

Used to use a fag packet. Worked fine. Does a tenth of a millimeter (0.64/0.75) make that much difference?

Re: Mk3 rear seat
Yup, just pull it backwards until it clears the bolt, then lift it slightly as it slots onto the top of the frame. If they've never been off before, you may even find the original build sheet still behind one. If memory serves it was usually on the righthand side. Oh and just because I'm a pedantic...

Add a grand onto the price at least if the owner knows it used to be yours and you want to buy it back.

Re: Car won't go into gear after startup
When you do the start up with the clutch down and then put it into first, how is the power take up as you release the clutch to drive away? Smooth like normal or does it lurch then move? Can you stop without stalling if you put the clutch down and/or can you change into 2nd?
