Re: 3.0 Brake Disc advice.

My top mounts at the moment are the rubber roller bearing burton type and I’m guessing the old stuff (not seen them yet) are the old rubber type if it’s all standard. I think it was taken off a car back in the day. I’ll try identify the springs from my paperwork when I get home tomorrow.

Re: 3.0 Brake Disc (just been offered 2.0 struts)

Hey folks i've been offered some 2.0 complete struts to swap out my 3.0 struts that are badly in need of new discs. What I have been offered is 2.0GL Sachs struts ready to go straight on with original standard springs/top mounts. What I have now is 3.0 struts with Burton top mounts (which I remember...

Re: 3.0 Brake Disc advice.

What I did was to check the bearing sizes for different models on Burton's web site . There are 3 different sized bearings . The 3L stubs are different to the 2L, and escorts are diff again. I would get 2L struts and fit the vented disc's and M16 calipers with spacer kit if you want to up grade . L...

Re: 3.0 Brake Disc advice.

Someone on another forum says they possibly know of some 2.0 struts for sale and is going to check a price for me. If they come back with something decent what should I expect? A lot of struts I see for sale on ebay have no hubs? I guess in that case I'll have to figure in Hubs, Discs and bearings? ...

Re: 1980 Ford Capri L 1.6

Lovely Car. I followed this one on ebay I think. Nice to see its on here and well done on the price! I prefer the L spec Capris, I really like that guy on youtube "Fast Rust" who has one pretty much exactly like yours.

3.0 Brake Disc advice.

Hey all, I was hoping someone could give me advice for my Capri's disc brakes. Its a 2.0 but for some reason (I'm guessing someone robbed the 2.0 struts) It has 3.0 legs and discs. I didnt know this 3 years ago and bought some new Burton Top Mounts/lowering springs which a garage fitted to get the C...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

it says 4mm of travel at the pedal My Haynes says free play should be 22mm, +or- 4mm, which is nearly an inch. ahh so I need to adjust further then. I think I saw the 4mm and though that was right. I probably need to find a way of holding the pedal up while I adjust too seen as nobody is around for...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Hey everyone! Im back... sorry about the delay on this. I finally found time to have a go at adjusting the clutch Pedal and of course filmed it all. Its a lot better but i'm wondering If I should have adjusted it out even more. the bite is around 3/4 of the way up the pedal (maybe a bit lower) and i...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Hey so I'm back home now and thought i'd ad a picture of the mixture screw and the number in the casting to this Carb. I stated to think while I was away, maybe I could find a second hand lower half to the carb or stripped out carb and use all the parts off this so I have a new mixture screw/hopeful...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Cheers for the advice guys. I did rebuild this last year with the £25 weber gasket kit/needle etc plus a new power valve . It ran ok but at this point and I followed some youtube vids/haynes to take things off, clean, put new stuff on. I didnt realise the accelerator pump was the wrong way around be...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Well you definitely need to sort that mixture screw out, it sounds like you may even have the wrong one in there, take it out and have a check. It's normal to use a screwdriver to adjust it. It appears to be not metering at all which means your car will run excessively rich. Yeah I think I should g...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Apologies I do mean mixture screw not idle screw. I did rebuild this carb but I'm thinking I could do with a new one every day, I wish I'd done this when I got the car. The last time I tried to get the mixture screw out I couldnt, I could only get it to turn to the edge but im sure I had it out when...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Yeah , I would have thought. A lean mix is harder to ignite , hence these kick arse ignition systems on modern cars, so that would make it an unlikely culprit (I think someone said retarded when they meant advanced 🙂) . Mine jingles away at 8deg ,not to bad at 4 using 96oct. On 100+ set a 8 deg its...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Ive been working like mad over the last few days and away this coming week but! I pulled the Capri out for 10 mins and had a look at this cable situation. I didnt get very far as I only have one 16mm spanner :/ I tried mole grips which were too wide and realised if I mess this up I havent got the ti...

Re: Battery Isolator

I have one like the eBay link on my Capri... mainly because of electrical gremlins early on I dont like to leave it outside the house with the battery connected either. I've got a fairly big battery on mine and it fits ok on the negative terminal . On the crap battery before I used to have it on the...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Hi CapriFreak Thanks for your response. I’ve watched parts of your YouTube videos, which answers a couple of questions I had. You seem to want to tackle almost anything yourself and you’ve got a 2.0 Pinto engine. According to info I’ve got, if your engine is 1974/75: Idle 700 +/- 25rpm – Ign. Timin...

Re: Bad clutch or adjustment? Also strange noise.

Cheers for all these replies guys! I will start with the clutch adjustment and go from there. Hopefully I can do that over the next couple days . Things I’ve tried so far are. Cleaning the Pcv (PVC?)valve, new intake gasket and top carb gasket (haven’t changed the base plate gasket yet but it wasn’t...
