Paint reaction (for Colin Turbo perhaps!)

<t>Ok I know that you can't mix cellulose and acrylic paint as they react and blister, usually more or less straight away but what causes a crazy paving type effect in the paint? I've recently sprayed some panels on the Capri and although I've not gone back to bare metal I have used high build prime...

Float level settings

Can anyone tell me what the measurements are from base plate to the bottom of the float for a Weber 32/36 on a 2.0. My Haynes manual is giving 35 mm closed and 51 mm open but that's with a brass float. Are the settings different for the black plastic float?
Thanks.

Carb problem

<t>32/36 Weber on a 2.0 Pinto with K & N. Don't use the car regularly, probably about 1500 miles pa.<br/> About 3 weeks ago after taking the Capri to work I jumped in, it started first time as it generally does, but before I could get the seat belt on it conked out and refused to start again. Af...

Welded

spot welds along the top under the bonnet and inside the door hinge area too. Then a couple of bolts on top edge and where wing meets front valance.

Funny looking..

panel gap between nearside wing and door, guess the glass fibre wings don't fit perfectly.
Your Capri is much better looking but it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day.

Van tax

Get your employment contract to state that you are not allowed to use the van for private purposes - which doesn't include travel to and from work - and there's no taxable benefit.

Re: the Police have explained NOTHING to us

<t>Don't want to be a merchant of gloom but 3 years ago we were in a 4 car shunt caused by a driver ramming the guy behind us at traffic lights at Clapham Common. Traffic Police attended said they would do the driver for driving without due care etc but ultimately we were told that taking further ac...

re leaky exhaust

I tend to use silicon sealant to bung things up but you could also try proper exhaust putty.

Don't know about dismantling...

... but you could swap the covers and padding over from a passenger seat. The covers certainly come off OK and I'm sure the foam will too. It would of course leave a hole where the tilt lever protruded from the passenger seat but perhaps you could make a patch from your dead drivers seat.

Re: it is not pinking

Unlikely but presumably there isn't any thing catching in the alternator blades or perhaps one of the blades is bent and rubbing.

Re: Tinny, rattling noise...

Sounds to me a bit like a loose or rubbing cam belt cover. Try taking it off and see if that cures the problem.

Sun roof wind deflectors

<t>I've got one lying around in the garage which I've been thinking of fitting but can't decide if they are just away of trapping dirty rain water on the roof and so should really be avoided. Any thoughts anyone.<br/> The second thing is I do not have any fixings so how should they be attached. If i...

Re: Knocking from gearstick at high revs

Read something similar to this recently, not on a Capri, but the suggestion was a u/j on the prop shaft being on the way out.
