How to flush as much coolant as possible out of the block

I topped up my radiator with coolant the other day, after a quick drive I took the cap off to a lot of steam and a foamy-sludgy brown mess. Can I assume this is because of 'red' coolant mixing with 'blue' antifreeze? Either way I think the system needs a complete flush. However what is the best way ...

Re: paint roller job - military

You shouldn't need to completely remove the paint if you're just respraying, just sand it completely flat.

Re: paint roller job - military

I considered this idea briefly a long time ago then I snapped out of it. The 'good' examples on the internet require some serious skill and also you never know what problems it may cause in the future. My advice? The car isn't in that bad condition at all, if it looks that good wet then treat it to ...

Re: Cambelt slipped badly

So I had a quick look today before towing it, I couldn't really touch anything as it was just before work and couldn't get dirty but anyway: The tensioner looked as if it had broken and the halves had come apart. I've ordered a new belt, tensioner and a full gasket set for the engine so hopefully al...

Cambelt slipped badly

So as I was driving today my car lost power and died. I tried to see if I could start her back up and got my friend to turn the key while I looked underneath the hood. As he turned the key I noticed a small strand of something from underneath the cambelt cover, fearing the worst I told him to stop a...

On the road!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has given me advice over the past few weeks, still a long way to go but as of today my capri became fully road legal for the first time since 1997! Been working on her on and off for a year with my dad, progress was very slow but it's days like this you know...

Just to let you know mate I can't see any of your pictures. It says they have been moved or deleted. Hi, MK1CAPRIME must have organised the photos into new folders. They can be viewed here, if you want to see them: http://s741.photobucket.com/user/simytheone1/library/FORD%20CAPRI%20MK1%20RESTORATIO...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

Everything is tightened up and it seems to be okay, I found the washers on the floor about 5m apart (I got very lucky). I torqued the chassis bushes to roughly 20ft pounds and the roll bar castle nuts to 40ft pounds and fitted new split pins. Hopefully it passes the MOT retest.

Re: Indicator problems!!!

I re-read your first post and up once for right and twice for left really does sound strange, it should be down for left, up for right unless I'm mistaken. This might help@ http://ccscotland.fr.yuku.com/topic/1515/late-model-Mk3-wiring According to that it's on fuse 7, check the earth and all connec...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

There's a couple of ways of doing the ratchet strap. I prefer to bolt the outer in place then ratchet in and line the inner bolt up but whichever way there should certainly be a big washer on either side of the outer bush. I will need to have a look around then to see if these washers have fallen o...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

Also is there supposed to be a washer on both sides of the outer bush? I swear on my car there was only one on each side on the back, behind the castle nut, but I'm seeing pictures online where there is a washer at the front like this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nige-d-smith/capri/images/ARBAR.JPG...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

Right so I managed to get the bar under enough tension to fit it through the bushes, however I'm not completely happy with how the bushes sit in the arm. They are polybushes so come in two halves and they seem very loose and at an angle (I assume the angle is to match the angle of the bar) but it ju...

Re: Indicator problems!!!

Invest in a cheap multimeter, i wish i had done this earlier as they are incredibly useful for diagnosing electrical problems. Set it to 20 or so V, turn on the hazards/ indicators and take a reading of each indicator where the wires go into the bulb, if you get a sufficient reading froM each then t...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

is a torque wrench necessary? I don't have one at the moment, would I be able to tighten it up without? I would say its a must when doing the suspension.... Even a cheap one like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVERLINE-1-2-3-8-DRIVE-RATCHET-TORQUE-WRENCH-28-210Nm-LIFETIME-GUARANTEE-/131407395865?...

Re: Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

That`s basically it, you need a ratchet strap (or a length of chain `wound up` with a long screwdriver. I was a reckless p**** once!) to pull the ends in together. Brute force I`m afraid. Definitely not one for a hot day! I should know by now nothing is every easy/ straightforward with these cars b...

Tips for getting the front Anti Roll Bar back into place?

Hi all, So I removed the front ARB today to put in some new bushes, I tried using a ratchet strap in order to keep it under tension, however I believe I put it too far up and it didn't work. So now the ARB appears wider and doesn't line up with the holes. I've not yet tried to tackle refitting it as...

Re: alternator warning light not illuminating.

Just to give some closure to this thread: The light is now working as it should and the battery isn't draining after a day. (Hooray!) It was definitely due to a faulty alternator.

Cheers for your help.
