Re: Brooklands 45th

I'm not 100% sure! but if you take it a a DVLA office for an inspection, they can now give you a plate true to the original year John, I think that a car built from a bare shell can only have an age-related plate if it has been constructed using new parts. That's why so many kit cars have Q plates,...

Re: Brooklands 45th

we can't all be millionaires parading around in concourse winning original cars - as much as I'm sure we'd all like to. Hi, There were two stunning low-mileage cars on display at Brooklands. One was an orange 3.0S and the other was, appropriately, a 280 (Brooklands). Both cars on well known on the ...

Re: Brooklands 45th

Phew, the atmosphere is getting tense in here! Thanks for your comments guys. As has been said, there are plenty of visitors at every car show who will condemn, loudly, to everyone within hearing distance exhibitor's cars and give their opinion to everyone who didn't ask for it and really don't want...

Re: Brooklands 45th

I was quite lucky catching the photos on the bank, I'd just sat down to eat my burger and saw a few cars moving, so went to investigate. You were lucky to see the photo session then. I can't be as on the ball as you, as I too saw a few cars moving, but I thought they were just leaving early! I didn...

Re: Brooklands 45th

Andrew, don't worry mate. As you will have gathered my friend works in a body shop so he's trained to spot a repair and paint job.......I think Mick felt a bit guilty for having mentioned 'a bit too much'. Peter, In all honesty, it was interesting talking to Mick, and it's always helpful to have an...

Re: Brooklands 45th

Hi, Great pics, JC, thanks for posting. I missed the photo session on the banking, and wasn't sure if it had taken place. Your photos prove that it did happen after all! I didn't see your car parked up. Judging by your photo it looks like you were parked up around the back on the grass opposite the ...

Re: CAPRIS Bristol/Devon/Surrounding areas

Hi Toby,

It's a shame that the original meet didn't materialise.
I could be up for next Sunday, weather permitting. I'd have to double check for any prior arrangements.

Re: First Capri - Updated. End is nigh

Mike, I've enjoyed reading this thread, thanks for posting all the photos and details. The fitment of the wings is a work of art. They look fantastic, and just goes to prove that in skilled hands pattern wings can be made to fit as well as originals. However, you've inadvertently caused me to choke ...

That was my first thought, but Tickover would have replaced the gaskets when they adjusted the tappets. Best check that out and take it back if there is a problem.

Re: Rebuild or recon?

Hi Neil, Nice meeting you today and loved your car. Simply beautiful. There's a lot to be said for leaving the engine well alone and just repairing faults, like the oil leak, as they occur. A rebuilt engine with unleaded conversion from Tickover is £1650 + VAT (exchange). That's the thick end of £2K...

Re: Oil leak from rear axle

Hi Glenn, Diff oil stinks, so you should be able to identify it quite easily. Top tip here. If you do replace the rear wheel bearing make sure you buy replacements that have a proper oil seal on them. I know from experience that there are plenty of Ebay sellers selling bearings that aren't suitable....

Re: passenger modified electric mirror installed (with video

Hi, Interesting modification, and informative instructional video. Thanks for posting. One question, is the electric mirror the London taxi one? Also, (yes, I know it's a second question) is there enough adjustment in the passenger electric mirror to be able to see out of it from the drivers seat? I...

Hi, Peter, it was nice meeting you (briefly) and loved all the great work that you've done on the car. A real credit to you. What a fantastic day! It was a pleasure to meet all the people from the forum and see all their fabulous cars. I arrived feeling elated, probably just soaking up the wonderful...

Rob,
Fantastic, the seats look like new. You definitely owe your friend a drink!
As Mike says, it's satisfying seeing the end result of a job well done, isn't it? Keep up the good work.

Hi,
I agree with Steve's comments. I've had one for a few months now, and it's reassuring to have that safety net there just in case.

Re: 45th Anniversary of the Capri @ Brooklands - Update

Hi,

I think that anyone on this forum who is planning on going to Brooklands would have read this thread anyway. Therefore, anyone who is intending to join the convoy would have said something by now. Three Capris driving together will be a spectacular sight.

I am getting nervous now. This will be the first time that I shown my capri to people so knowledgeable. Nick, Don't worry, you're mind will be put as rest as soon as you see mine in the flesh! I really look forward to seeing your car and John's, and Neil's, and all the others. Still got a long list...
