Re: think my stat is sticking

Did your "mechanic" fit it? Only kidding. If you think it's sticking, change it. You got to think, motor factored parts for old cars are made cheap as chips, and by a 3 year old in china. I've known people buy points that don't work straight from the box. Personally, as a daily driver for ...

Re: think my stat is sticking

Kid, going back to my Stage 0 tune up rant, this is exactly the kind of thing I mean. A thermostat is a service item, should be changed every few years.

Easy to do, the housing can be a pain to seal back up. I just used two gaskets one on top of the other.

Re: There's some evil scum out there.

There was a guy on the radio a while back who had done this. All perfectly legal, I think you just have to say at the start of the call that it is a premium number.

He didn't make a fortune out of it, but his cold calls soon died down after a year or so.

And surely with a worn piston ring, you could get away with just honing out the bore?

Re: another engine swap question

OK fair enough. I always found them uneconomic and unrefined. My dad always complained that he had the head off of his Cortina so many times to replace a head gasket. They are basic and for that reason I love them. However more modern engines make more power for better economy. Also they are made f...

Re: There's some evil scum out there.

Well learning from this mate, you should probably make sure all your customers are present in their room when you are, explaining this situation to them if needs be. There are some real scammers out there. Cleverest I heard from back in the day was the old break down scam. Before mobiles, a scammer ...

Re: Not sure I like the look of stretched tyres.

Not a fan here. Reminds me of VW's with 12 inch wheels and, force rusted bonnets and a gaggle of offensive stickers in the rear (blacked out) screen.

Re: Body panels

You sir, are a metal magician! Very impressive. I've always thought a lower rear front-wing repair panel would make a lot of sense. The part behind the front wheel? I know the inner sill end sections are available, but I've seen a lot of wings get binned because the lower rear corner was rotten to b...

Need a rebore and new carb? Sorry, but I wouldn't believe that for a second. Sounds like someone is trying to empty your bank account.

Make sure the engine is stone cold when you do them. Are you sure you are not confusing the exhaust valves with the inlet ones?

Undecided, but not a UKIP fan here. I personally don't believe leaving the EU is a wise move, though I do support major continent wide reform.

Re: Are fibreglass panels worth it?

For MOT you will be fine, there are no safety implications on the material you use for your body panels. As for body rigidity and what not, that's what the chassis and inner wings are for. For me, my reason not to do it is that you will never be able to match the paint finish from the fibre panels t...

Re: my car stickers arrived

Not for me I'm afraid. I was thinking about this the other day. I keep seeing little chavvy corsas and saxos with "obituary stickers" on them, such as "RIP Gaz, one of the best, died doing what he loved" and that kind of thing. Whilst I'm sure the sentiment is well intentioned, m...

They are no doubt the ones east kent trim supplies flog. Awful quality, don't bent, and fold up as soon as you apply any heat. Don't even look like the original fitted ones.

Re: VV carb ?

It is one of the carbs ford put on. You can tell if you remove the air filter as the top venturi opening is rectangular. It's an ok carb for economy, but if you want a K&N filter I'm guessing you aren't fussed about that. A better upgrade would be to fit a weber 32/36 carb or similar (I forget t...
