Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Wow! The guy did say it had won a little trophy at a show he took it to so that’s great news to hear it’s true! Thanks for the photo spot Andrew, nice one :) I do actually have a pair of black fluffy dice left over from another car which would be rude not to install should the white ones not get thr...
Only when you press harder on the accelerator to hear it  Best system for the V6  Looks like it was off the road pre 2014, so may have been recommissioned with lots of other new parts :) :goodluck:
 Now that made me giggle! Glad to hear it's a good choice, thanks f...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Thanks andyd. Good spot on the Janspeeds (I wouldn't have known if the owner hadn't told me!) Apparently fitted by the previous owner. Nice and Stainless - the underside's already clean enough, but those make it worth grovelling on the ground for a good gawp! Quick question: Do Janspeeds affect the ...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Update time.... As above post suggests, I'm off to have a look at a nice 5 speed pre-'Special' with 2 tone paint scheme tomorrow. It may be known to members here, I'm not sure, but the guy's a real enthusiast and bought it from someone who had a few others too. 80k miles and looks very un-messed ar...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

I like that Capri convoy idea Hilton! - will let you know when I plan my next trip East (I love heading into Essex/Kent with the car - feels like I'm taking it home... (although I realise Cologne is 400miles to the east of Dagenham) Also I'll take some pics of mine over weekend and post somewhere (...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

At present the ULEZ is in the congestion charge zone only, during operating hours. You'd need to be slightly insane anyway to drive in that area in the middle of the week! There is talk of expansion in 2019. Are you inside the South Circ? Vehicles over 40 years old are, however, exempt. Here's a po...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

hey Hilton I got a late 2.8i - not a special. I saw quite a few specials actually but decided the extra bit of money wasn’t worth it for me and wasn’t fussed about the lsd or half leather seats - and also I wanted the look of the black front grill, not colour coded. (Plan is actually to put a black...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Welcome ! I bought my 2.8i just before Xmas (my first Capri) and I’m in my 30s with my first baby on the way - my wife and I have been going through some of the same questions as you seem to be. Not sure I have much to add to some of the much more experienced viewpoints on here but i went through t...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

I've come across a lovely 2.8i pre Special model, the one with 5 speed, pepperpot wheels and velour Recaros.
Does that have Limited Slip Diff and should it be priced lower than a Special?

Forgive my ignorance :)

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

PS. Love the Alfa! Me too, but being an Alfa, of course means that it's currently not working :crying:. Timing chain has slipped, so apparently an engine out job, and £2,500 :crying:. Capri is an easier fix so doing that first :D There's irony for you.... Modern car less reliable than classi...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Good Point -JC- Sometimes light regular use can be better than none. TBH, we're so used to clambering into small/awkward cars that the kids will think nothing of 2 door coupes. The real pain was when they were babies and you had to put the rearfacing baby seats through a 2 door....aaaaargh! Now we j...

I'm overwhelmed with the support for my situations: once again, thanks guys! Thanks for the input Jasonmarie, Noel & Sheff: Interesting observatiopns on the £16k car in Hildenborough. I wonder what the rust issues were/are and how much further they spread. I'm learning by the minute about thes...

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Thanks Noel.

Really interested to know of a real-life owners view on a car for sale like that.
That is the sort of standard I'd like(as long as it actually is what it looks like).

Cavity filler = great advice, thanks.

Re: 2.8i as a family car/daily driver?

Thanks pbar... There is definitely a real feeling of excitement! You hit the nail on the head there. More a question of talking me OUT of it than into it! Thanks also for the fuel advice. Nice to know that the engine isn't like a handgranade when filled with unleaded. Maybe the 'Ultimate' (or equiva...
