Re: Front Wheel Droaning Noise

Thought I’d update the post. The new wheel bearing is fine, nothing to fault with same tests as before. I decided to buy a new set of brake pads and a new brake pad fitting kit. We noticed the last time in the pit the existing brake pad fitting kit had sprung out. I’m guessing this is the problem. F...

Re: Front Wheel Droaning Noise

On the ramp the fronts can’t be spun to locate the issue as they free wheel too slow. Have you tried spinning the wheel with the brake pads removed? Hi Peter No, we’ve not spun the wheel without the brake pads. I may try that next time. Thanks. What were you expecting if so? Had the car on the ramp...

Re: Front Wheel Droaning Noise

Sometimes cheap tyres can cause excessive road noise, and this can appear as a drone. Had this experience recently with a customers Mondeo I’ve got 8 month old bought new JBW RS4 wheels and put 4 new Toyo Proxes on. The problem was present with the old original wheels and good tyres too. Thanks for...

And I'd like to induct you into the (sadly) very exclusive club of people who ask for advice and then actually bother to give feedback for the benefit of others. Well done sir! Thanks Bug, glad to be a part of the club..ha I’ll need to update again it seems... The droan has returned!!! So after all...

Re: Front Wheel Droaning Noise

Hi I thought i’d Update the issue I’d had. It become so annoying after a 20 min drive I’ve temporarily given up. I had the Caliper replaced with a new / refurbished one and after a hour or so driving no more droaning. The piston had been stuck before and left to soak and release the seizure which ha...

Re: What Poly Bush?

I’ve had mine all replaced at the front and used Superflex. I got them from Burton Power as I was buying some other bits from there at the the time. The car feels nice and tight when steering now I may be interested in fitting poly bushes to my Laser. May I ask if you found any difference (better o...

Re: To Restore or Reupholster Leather Steering Wheel?

Fantastic job in restoring this wheel. Do you think I could achieve similar results on a Laser gear nob. I have the original one from my Laser. The leather is just a little split and frayed around the top. I may start a new thread and add some pictures showing current condition. Thanks Nigel! Yeah,...

Re: To Restore or Reupholster Leather Steering Wheel?

Great repair job! 8-) Judging by the condition of the wheel in the first photo, most people would have condemned that one to the scrap pile and bought a replacement. That's money saved that can be spent elsewhere on the car.... Andrew. Thanks Andrew. I’m more of a restorer than a mechanic tbh. I en...

Re: To Restore or Reupholster Leather Steering Wheel?

Did you use the same dye that I used on doing up my wheel? http://www.fordcapriforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=51748 That's a nifty repair to the damaged bit that you did, nice job. I did Paul. Thanks again for the link in your post. It’s very hard wearing I’ve found. I’m very happy!! :D

Re: To Restore or Reupholster Leather Steering Wheel?

The wheel needed a lighter sand with 800 wet and dry followed by 1200 wet and dry. Leather seems quite forgiving and is a material not to be afraid of :? https://s17.postimg.org/7d82vfzb3/6233_F6_E6-_FB41-4_EBC-89_DC-4_B1608_EAEE58.jpg By this point there was no going back but overall I was happy wi...

To Restore or Reupholster Leather Steering Wheel?

I took a chance on a second hand steering wheel which needed some help. It was sold as “in need of reupholstering”. So I thought I’d take a chance and have a go at restoring it. Here’s the wheel once I received it: https://s17.postimg.org/dgl21epun/E7_EB9_B19-9_BB2-407_E-_B9_DB-86_A60_A2_F18_AC.jpg ...

Re: Steering wheel advice

Good job!!

I’m currently restoring a ripped wheel I’ve bought. I’ll repair the hole and show progress in another thread etc.

Thanks for the dye link.

Have you applied a Matt lacquer?

I intend to, to prevent the premature wear on the repair / dye etc.

Cheers

Re: Tyres

I’ve put Toyo Proxes CF2, 185 60 R13 on mine. Considering how much rain we have all year I decided these were the best and most suitable I could find. That said there isn’t much choice for these tyre sizes. I got 4 new tyres for £176.00 inc delivery from eBay tyre store based in Bradford. A further ...
