Re: Hi Spec 285mm brake woes

A good 2nd hand 2.8 servo hopefully shouldnt be too difficult to locate. Id say it's worth trying the usual vendors most of us on here use such as Martin of Caprigear, Nial, Tickover, CCI . Also worth posting it as a Part Wanted in the appropriate sections of this and the other Capri forum. You shou...

Re: Engine Swap - Pinto 1600 to Pinto 2000

Reading you asking about whether to upgrade the disks and drums made me wonder how much bhp differential you are actually expecting. Though the standard 1.6 was only 73bhp this rises quickly when a 32/36 carb is added and a bit more when the 2 litre camshaft is used- this is the spec of the 1.6 S en...

Re: Prolblem with my Capri 2.0 pinto

Its worth eliminating the tank and fuel line as possibles. Can you hook up a temporary fuel line from a gallon petrol can to the fuel pump.

Re: Prolblem with my Capri 2.0 pinto

Thats a bypass, not a check. A check would be measuring the actual voltage preferably when the car is running, that way you can see if the voltage suddenly changes just as the engine stops.

Not clear why you have started 2 new threads for the same 'prolblem'

It could be best to delete this one to avoid confusion and splitting the responses.

Re: Prolblem with my Capri 2.0 pinto

Check the coil is getting the correct voltage via the ballast resister rather than the full 12 volts as that would overheat the standard 8 volt coil.

Check the small gauze filter in the inlet to the carb

Check the float needle valve works correctly and that the float does not have a pinhole leak.

It does sound very much like the servo. Who recommended changing the master cylinder and had they actually tested the servo first ?

Re: Genuine Mk3 Parcel Shelf grey

A pair of unused raven leather front seats from a 280 will be very desirable. Be sure to let the 280 club know to watch out for them on Ebay and post the links back to this forum too. There are people out there who will buy to resell these or will buy to stockpile as well as those buyers who have a ...

Re: Genuine Mk3 Parcel Shelf grey

If you want to sell them as a job lot negotiate with Martin of Caprigear and CCI to see what they will offer and get them picked up from you. Otherwise as others have said sell them individually on Ebay. An original unspoiled Ford original parcel shelf is probably an easier sell than a set of mats b...

Re: Parts catalogue that seems to have a lot of what we need

Some interesting stuff on the Motomobil site. I was just looking at the engine page and was very surprised to see there a 1.3 Pinto engine listed for 1972 and 73. I'd always read the smallest Pinto engine only ever had an outing in the early Sierra and that all 1.3 Capris were either Kent engined fo...

Re: Black Capri Wanted Any up to 6k!

Congratulations on deciding to look for a Capri. Despite values having nudged upwards in recent years they are still immensely practical classics to own. Great to drive, great to look at, straightforward to work on and with a highly supportive ownership community. . From a pre facelift Mk1 to a late...

chromed Mk3 bumpers

I shouldnt go to car shows they always give me ideas. A Dunton last week I spotted a Mk3 with chromed (Mk3) bumpers. It also had a custom made grille and the combination completely changed the look of the front of the car. Does anyone know the owner or have an idea of how the bumpers would have been...

Re: Master cylinder

My understanding is if you change the master cylinder for a 2.8 one you would need to change the servo also. Probably best to just see if Martin / Tickover / CCI etc have a good 2nd hand master cylinder that will be a straight swap. If you want a slight upgrade in braking performance for not much co...

Re: Front crossmember

Its great that you are using V6 parts for this and doing it the traditional way. I got talking to someone at the Dunton show the other day who had installed electric power steering which mounts on the column and top of the pedal box but uses the original non PAS rack. It was a neat job but struck me...

Re: Wanted, Mk3 headlight grille surrounds

Actually seeing the white full width grille on the cool but controversial Coyote Capri the other day got me thinking. I wonder how much work it would be to knock up something full width like that but with black aluminum slats slats to make it more in keeping with the look of a standard Mk3 grille.
