Re: What is killing everyone?

They could tell me that having the jabs would make the sun shine outta my arse - still not happening, something about all this doesn't feel right, gut instinct gets better with age so I'll pass on the jabs if it's all the same.

Re: 3.0 Exhausts. Which ones?

I'm no expert but have fitted Janspeeds to a 3.0 and 2.8. Janspeeds come with flanges so easy to connect to the 3.0, and they can be cut off to sleeve the 2.8. The 2.8 manifolds don't have the flange https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270715330786?fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3ACapri&epid=1230650652&am...

Re: 3.0 Exhausts. Which ones?

I have a set of Sportex pipes on mine and whilst sounding great the rear tailpipes are a nightmare, everytime I go over even a relatively small bump the rear spring(s) hit the pipes and I have yet to find a cure for it, the rear tailpipes are simply shaped/curved wrong, also with 205 60 13 tyres fit...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

Excellent, glad you have found the issue Wayne. Thanks mate, one thing I did learn in all this is a way to test the fuel and temperature gauges individually using one of these, I connected the small 9v battery to each post on the back of the gauge briefly and bingo! duracell-plus-power-9v-battery-4...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

Happy New Year everyone 🙂 Well the fuel gauge is sorted, bit embarrassed by the fix to be honest because after having these cars for over 30 years I think I should have known better- Martin you was spot on, it was indeed the wiring at the back of the car just as you said mate - the earth wire was co...

Re: Camshaft lobes

Yeah Wayne , I guess to remove the rough cast edge of the cam lobe is another (£) machining job and it aint going to make a shit of difference to function or longevity so why bother. Gotta admit tho that if I had just coughed for an aftermarket camshaft and it turned up looking like that ........pr...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

Any ideas guys cos I'm at a loss with this one Hi Wayne, Although this situation can be frustrating, you've eliminated lots of possibilities, so you're definitely making good progress. It's looking more and more likely that the sender itself is the faulty component. Andrew Hi Andrew, Thanks for rep...

Re: Camshaft lobes

Hi mate, I've seen this a few times, normally on standard factory cams and other items like engine blocks etc..I guess Ford ain't one for looks and to fair rough castings are fine so long as they don't interfere with items intended purpose, inside some engine blocks the rough castings are super shar...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

Hi guys, Hope you all had a good Christmas 🎄 Today I went outside and made another attempt at sorting the non working fuel gauge, here is what tried: Tested power to sender and confirmed 4.98 volts. Earthed out positive wire to two different earth points - gauge did not move. Removed instrument clus...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

cheap LED lights perhaps? Can you recommend some decent one's please mate Just a thought, but might be worth forgetting the LED route and simply replace with normal bulbs, you might wish to remove the bulb covers (if they are still there), and simply use 3W green bulbs. NIce and easy and will be cl...

Re: Fuel gauge not working

Hi Wayne, It's the same light that illuminates those two gauges, so the bulb will most likely have blown. The lighting circuit is not connected to the circuit that feeds the sender, it's just a coincidence if the issues have appeared at the same time. If you join the two wires on the sender togethe...

Fuel gauge not working

Afternoon all, So the fuel gauge has stopped working, I assumed it would be the connections on the sender unit corroded as per normal, well not this time, checked voltage I have 4.91 volts feeding the sender so I briefly earthed the wire out and the gauge did not move, the water temp gauge is fine b...

Re: Condensation damage

Hi Wayne, Great information mate that will surely help others. Glad you seem to have found the possible cause for the water damage mate and Hamish has given another very good possibility too. While it will not stop the condensation building up, especially in this very damp weather we have at the mo...

Condensation damage

So the aftermarket head unit stopped working properly in my car - the amp output blew, you could still use it as long as the sound didn't have to go through the amps first, I removed the head unit and all looked well until I examined the very back of the unit which had water stains on it, pulled the...

Re: Alternator or brushes

Yeah , its hard to know how to reply . On one hand there are the old skilled peeps who will have it to bits on the bench in under 5 mins and think nothing of flickin a set of brushes at it and if the bearings crap out in 6 months....who gives one , 20 min job . And, in the blue corner there are the...
