Re: Some dashboard lights not working

If your car has been to an auto electrician to have a repair done, and when you get it back there are electrical faults like this....why haven't you taken it back to the auto electrician to sort out the faults he has created?

Re: Ignition switch failed?

To give you another variable to check....my experience and knowledge would put your problems down to incorrect ignition timing. The long and the short of this is that rather than trying to find a specific fault, your engine needs a service and tune up. So, check plugs/points/leads are all in good co...

Do the maths....at 1000rpm the engine sucks in 15 ltrs of air per second, through an aperture 32 mm wide. Thats why it tries to pull you in!

Re: Electrical gremlins

Earth, earth, earth and when you've checked them and they are ok I'd check the earth s again. Electrical gremlins on capris are almost always down to earth problems....electrickery always follows the path of least resistance so it is possible that "appliances" earth back through othe appli...

Absolutely refuse to endorse by silence anyone who admits to driving dangerously and then ridicules me for saying I don't. I'm not insulting...I'm stating facts that show that person in a bad light. I can't help those facts. Anybody decent confronted by someone driving any car in the manner this per...

Re: capri laser 1985 1.6 nimbus grey

Got to be something sticking....the airflow required to hold the revs at 2500 can't be an air leak below the fuel jet, there wouldn't be enough fuel to keep them that high. Check the ignition timing with a strobe, especially watch the advance and retard as you rev it. Would be very unusual but it's ...

Re: 1.6 laser brake upgrade

Well the worst thing is riding your brakes on long steep banks Or if you have a calliper sticking lt feals like your brakes are spongey and don’t slow you down If your soevo is not working it makes your brakes deal like the peadel is very hard Riding your brakes = bad driving technique Calliper sti...

Re: 1.6 laser brake upgrade

FFS save your money. This is a 1.6 laser we are talking about? Please tell me how you manage to drive on a public road in such a manner to experience brake fade? Also tell me where so I can avoid the area and not get killed by someone driving like an idiot. My Rat did 100+ laps of the track on stand...

Re: Single Venturi auto carb leaking (+startup issues)

Yep correct Weber is 32/36 DGAV. No manifold adaptor...you have to get a suitable manifold. And, as yours is an auto, you'll need to sort the kickdown cable as well.

Re: Single Venturi auto carb leaking (+startup issues)

Ok. Pumping the accelerator 4 times before starting will over richen the mixture because the accelerator pump squirts fuel directly into the carb ventury when it's not sucking in any air so it sits in the bottom of the manifold until it mixes with the already rich cold start mixture when the engine ...

Re: Pinto engine change recomdations?

The transit engine would be a good Base for lary rebuild but I would just like a good reliable pinto. I'm on a bit of a budget with the engine so the 2.0 will be the best I think. Is it right that the 2.0 on a standard cam the valves won't hit the pistons if the cam belt snaps? Should be ok but no ...

Re: Front sitting too high

86 Laser is late enough to have single leafs as std, a few did as Ford began to empty the parts bins. Only way to get the ride profile you want is by fitting adjustable coil over struts. Otherwise it's trial and error with quoted spring heights. What your eyes are happy with might be a 2" drop ...

Re: Rear light wiring problem

Ok 1970's, 80's and 90's Ford rear light clusters, all vehicles from Transits to Fiestas, 95% of problems are down to poor earth connections. Some like Capris earth through the mounting screws which is a particularly dumb idea imho. Some have wires bolted to some inaccessible place onb the body whic...

They're green 2.8's with fancy leather seats. That's all really. Rarish because most rusted away. Always park together at shows, their area is known as the cabbage patch amongst us oldies. Horrible colour green and, imho, alot of fuss about nothing.

Re: Essex V6 carb jetting

Having spent money building a nicely specc'ed engine I would have thought it makes sense to spend some more money on a rolling road session where they can optimise your jetting, cam timing etc etc. Asking for jet sizes on a forum is futile. anyone who can know exactly what jets you need from a descr...

Re: Leaking brake fluid

I used to knock the reservoir off the master cylinder frequently until I put a cable tie on. Pull it down reasonably tight and it should stop the leak.
