Re: As you were!

Is this your way of saying you exceeded 60mph mate ?   Thought I'd overdone it. Started the car this morning to a horrible metallic screeching noise. Should have listened to Nick I thought. ;) However I soon traced the noise to the alternator and found that the nut on the end of ...

Re: Gold ‘84 2.0S running gear swap...

The easiest brake upgrade for 4 cylinder Capris is to go to the vented front discs and calipers from the 2.8i. A heads up if you decide to do this route, I dropped down 2.8 front discs to my local garage a while back while they were adding my carbs on and they told me you would need 2.8 front legs ...

No, we’ve not spun the wheel without the brake pads. I may try that next time. Thanks. What were you expecting if so?

Just thinking if it spins up more without the pads and the droan is still there then it not the brakes causing the problem

Have you tried spinning the wheel with the brake pads removed?

Re: Wedding Day Pictures

Good stuff Nick. Through a foggy haze I can remember taking Mrs S to our wedding in a white MKII. Doubt she thought there would still be Capris parked on the drive more than 30years on - probably I didn't either if I'm honest!

Re: Gold ‘84 2.0S running gear swap...

Only thing I’m not 100% on is that I’d like to convert the rear brakes to discs - it seems like a 2.8 or 3.0 rear axle is a popular choice to facilitate that. Is it as simple as a straight swap? Grateful for any insight anyone is kind enough to offer :) Cheers, Rich Hi Rich, :welcome: On the axle f...

Re: what is better?

Depends on what you want to get from driving it I guess. Personally I like one or two home comforts in a car so I would be looking at getting an interior but I might just be getting old and soft

As you were!

We picked up a new car at the weekend to replace the daily Toyota we've had for the last five years. Better spec, more gadgets and gizmos, a bit quicker, a bit more comfortable, really quiet etc etc. Drove it home a couple of hours and it seemed quite refined. I was a bit worried as yesterday I had ...

Re: Cheap 2.8.......

Looks reasonably genuine. Front valence is bent and its had a blow over under the bonnet. Offside under the headlight looks like something has been painted over so probably needs a good check for hidden filler.

Re: Humming noise (REAR)

The fuel pump is not entirely silent but presumably this is a noise that wasn't previously there. Check that the insulation around the pump hasn't perished and perhaps the pump touches the bracket some of the time as this is likely to amplify the sound it makes. Rear bearing is possible as well but ...

Old smokey

The bench in my shed was a length of spare kitchen worktop but its sagged over the years so its had to go. Tonight as I was burning some garden rubbish I chucked it on a bonfire. Possibly it would have smoked less if it wasn't impregnated with spilt brake fluid  https://farm1.staticflickr.c...
