Re: READ THIS FIRST BEFORE OTHER THREADS: Login Failing

Some of you might have seen a message yesterday from Beakster as the forum was down for a while he was backing up stuff for an update. He said it wasn't as straight forward as he hoped - what is! - but should be done soon.

Re: What a Waste!

There appears to be 'Police Aware' tape in some of the shots, guess you don't know why Andrew? Sorry Peter, I have no idea of the history regarding these cars. Perhaps the Police kept getting reports that the cars were stolen and dumped? It's a truly intriguing situation. Andrew. Former getaway veh...

Cheers guys.
Had another look tonight, think the bottom adjuster was dragging so I'm hoping it's OK but was getting dark so left it before I lost a nut or bolt somewhere!

2.8 Fan belt

I've been meaning to change the fan belts on the 2.8 for a while. I found a couple of new belts that came with the car a few years back. They will fit but the alternator will not line up. The belts are marked up as 975mm. One of the belts on the car is marked as 1000mm which is what the circumferenc...

Andrew.

I was told you have to be able to read the speedo at night. Seemed new, yes.

Re: Fuel gauge not working

I took my 2.8 for its mot today. Fuel gauge was working fine. When I got home it wasn't. Spooky huh  I did actually need two attempts for the test. One of the things it failed on was the dash lights being really dim, so dim that you couldn't see them. Sorted it out by removing the dash and wh...

Re: Ignition switch failed?

I seem to recall that when I had a MkII 30 odd years ago there was a starter solenoid button under the bonnet close to the starter motor. Does yours have one? See if it spins the engine over if its there. If it does it suggests the fault might be in the switch.

Re: Speedo bouncing

Check the cable connection on the gearbox as well, it should be held in place by a circlip which can go missing making the connection loose.

Re: Fuel gauge not working

I think the feed on this is meant to be 6 volts, governed by the regulator in the dash. Might be worth checking what reading you are getting.

Re: 1.6 laser brake upgrade

Am I right in understanding that you're not supposed to split calipers into the two halves because of the factory torque settings or something?....... Or is that nugget of information from my imagination or a geezer down the pub? :headscratch: Probably comes from Mr Haynes along with disconnect the...

Re: 1.6 laser brake upgrade

As Nige says, good condition stuff will help. The thing to bear in mind with effectively upgrading to 2.8 spec is that you will have exactly the same disc area and exactly the same size pads as you do at the moment.
