Re: Smokey engine

Apologies for dragging up an old thread, but I currently have the head off my pinto and have a set of VR top hat stem seals to fit. They do not seem to locate in a very positive manner on the head, do I need to give them a helping hand with a hammer and socket? Can't believe that they are just held...

You have my interest if you have a price in mind!

Hi,

I see Mike can get material so don't know if that is a cheaper option for you but I'm looking at £180

Re: Pinto Camshaft Pulley Bolt Removal?

I was planning to leave the cam in place, but since I'm going to give the head a thorough clean I figured I'd remove it. But, I can't get the pulley bolt undone. Head is off the block, stripped of everything except the cam. Any tips on undoing the bolt without the cam turning? Ta Can you put a scre...

I'm just wondering, if you end up with a list of people that largely says they will only go if it is dry is that going to be any help to anyone?

Re: 2.8i Overfuelling issues

Hi All, I have an overfuelling issue with my 2.8i all of the plugs are carboning up and it runs terribly warm or cold (ran it for 30 mins). It has been stood on and off for 12 years. So far I have done the following: 1. Checked the ignition system all ok new plugs, leads and coil. 2. New fuel (98 o...

Re: Automatic starter motor

Hi all, just a quick one. Which side of the engine is the starter motor on an automatic Capri ? Were converting ours to a manual from a pile of parts and the loom suggests the starter was on the drivers side, but on the manual it's on the passenger side. It's no problem as i can re-route the cables...

Re: hesitates/jerking at low speeds

Sounds like the timing is ever so slightly out - my first point of call would be to check the points gap and that the timing gear is set correctly I had mine set to 6 degrees and it was OK, changed to 8 and made a world of difference! I had the timing & fuel pressure checked last week, all, is ...

Re: diesel engine in a capri? discuss

Saw a diesel in a Capri at East Kirkby a few years ago, think it was just a Ford lump.
Your call of course. Not my thing, I've stuck with petrol even in the daily but be interested to see what you come up with but wasn't it your tag that used to say no replacement for displacement?

Re: Autocar rendering of a new Capri

So when many owners lower their Capris the new design makes it 6 inches higher and plonks it on 20" wheels. So safety or whatever might be the reasoning but do they not understand what the appeal of the original was. Oh dear!

Re: WUR again sorry!

My concern is that whatever this part is it just rattles up and down whilst the WUR is stripped which doesn't feel like the right thing or is it? The 'button' at the bottom is attached to a rubber diaphragm. It should move up and down by only a couple of mm. Normally it is lifted by the vacuum crea...

Re: My Capri failed it MOT HELP!!

Hi, Thanks for the info! It is much appreciated. A couple of questions if thats okay. When taking the drum off, am I to be able to move the handbrake mechanism by hand? And to what extent should it move, ie is there an amount too little for it to move? With the fronts, I was advised to take the cal...

Re: My Capri failed it MOT HELP!!

What you need to do is to get somebody who can show you how to do the job properly, why not the examiner who has failed them? I'm not at all comfortable about people just "having a go" at something that if it failed could easily end up being fatal Get yourself a workshop manual and read i...
