Just a thought, you haven't got more than one spacer plate between the carb and manifold have you?

Nice Escort

Something a bit sporty sounding was outside the office today and when I looked out this Escort was parked out front. Apparently only a 1600 but tuned a bit I would guess. Only had time for a quick snap as I had a meeting to ago to but looked quite smart :) https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4536/3844115...

Re: Aftermarket stereo/standard wires

Has it powered the old radio since it failed to power the new one or before. Perhaps the in line fuse has gone in changing wires around. Doesn't make sense otherwise!

Re: 38 dgas/dgms carburetor issue

Define a full turn. If the screw slot is level and you turn it anti clockwise until it is level again that will be half a turn so it will be round once more for a full turn. Apologies if you already realise that but it might mean you are only turning the screw around three turns out, which is about ...

Sorry but the distance is going to be a problem I'm afraid. Too much work on to get a full day free :( I'm glad that you have some decent support and hope your brother gets a good send off.

Re: F*cked up the valves?!

Doesn't sound too good. What engine is it. A 2.0 should be OK in terms of the valve being down whilst the piston is up and the two not connecting but a 1.6 is more of an issue.

Re: Strut inserts

This is the nut at the top of the cylinder casing as opposed to the top of the spindle under the bonnet?

The insert should just pull out after that

Re: I just drove the new GT86..

I was admiring one a little over four years ago at a main dealer when we were buying our current daily. Not looking to buy but just admiring and our salesman said he'd had to use one for a while so he knew it well enough to sell it. Sadly he wasn't that impressed. As I recall he thought the handling...

I know the nut on the top of the insert in the engine bay is like that but I'm not sure that the nut that holds the insert in to the cylinder casing is, is it?

Re: Front shock absorbers

If there's oil leaking from the top of the shocks..would it be advisable to change them It depends where the oil is leaking from. The inserts that Paul has posted elsewhere sit in oil in the main cylinder. It might be that oil that's leaking. The struts can rust through where the cup that the sprin...

It's anti clockwise. If you have access to a large vice to hold the unit it makes life easier.

Re: Front shock absorbers

Hi anyone know how to replace the strut inserts Yes I do! How much info do you need? The whole front strut assembly needs to come off then there is a large nut on the top of the main cylinder which unscrews and the insert will then come out. I think there may have been a special tool for the nut ba...

As Andrew says, try and find a replacement. There's not usually a lot you can do with worn units.

Re: Steering wheel advice

Hi Paul, I'm pretty certain its a vinyl finish underneath, probably with a little groove in the bottom spoke to accommodate the seam for the join in the leather. I too had a slightly faded (in a couple of places) but sound leather wheel and sprayed it with an aerosol shoe dye, just a light coat but ...
