I can answer this on Danny's behalf - yes it is a seat mounting area. Common Ford problem.

It doesn't look too bad for a car that is used daily, it's done quite well. All the ferret oxide on it is quite fixable. It's about on a par with how my Laser was, maybe a bit worse in places.
