Re: What a Waste!

It looks like it's full of junk but doesn't look beyond redemption. Bit of grot on the roof hinge but sills and arches look OK.

Re: What a Waste!

You ought to send those pictures to Practical Classics "Rust in Peace" section. All of it's a crying shame, as you said the FB Victor estate, Austin A40 (my mum had one of those when i was a kid) and all the other rare British steel. Would it be worth knocking the door regarding the Capri ...

Re: A strange situation

No dash covers for me, and it's been in the sun everyday this year and last as I don't have anyplace to store the car and I use it daily. I bet you anything that this is the problem. Only thing I did to the dash was thoroughly clean it in preparation for the vinyl paint, as it only required a coupl...

Re: Ignition switch failed?

Hi Nik The Burton reduction gear starter is nice but it's probably a bit of an unneccessary luxury. You best bet would to phone Martin at Caprigear (he's a Capri specialist supplier) on Monday and take his advice, he may have reconditioned ones or good, tested used ones. His number is 01507 343148. ...

Re: Interesting.....

I had the V8 "thing" a few years ago and as a result have a Rover SD1 Vitesse been sitting in my garage for the last 14 years. Now I just want to drag it out, get it going and sell it. Always fancied a Vauxhall VXR8, drove a Holden HSV version in Australia and it was a complete animal. A l...

Re: Ignition switch failed?

Ah - Nik, you didn't say that you were getting a single click when the key is turned. If that is the case get a helper to hold the key in the start position whilst you tap the soleinoid (the smaller box on top of the starter) with a hammer and see if it starts. If it starts it means the soleinoid is...

Re: Ignition switch failed?

In my reply I meant to check the wiring connections ON the starter motor. not at the back of the ignition switch. If you've got ignition lights but nothing from the starter I bet this is where the problem will lie. It will either be a bad connection or a break in the wire down to the starter. As fa...

Re: Speedo bouncing

If you do grease the cable then I would recommend you use a very light grease to lubricate the cable and don't grease the top 12" ( 30cm) as there is a chance that it could work its way up the cable and get into the speedo head, which is not a good idea.

Re: Ignition switch failed?

Check the small wire that goes down to the starter motor - the terminals may be loose, corroded or even have fallen off if it's not starting. This is the wire that current comes from the ignition to energise the solenoid to switch and operate the starter. This is quite a common problem and gives the...

It was a fantastic day and I too was so pleased to put faces to names of the few I haven't met before. All of you have cars you can be proud of and mine will look like the shitty poor relation in comparison! A special mention should go to Andrew - it was absolutely great meeting you and well done an...

Re: A strange situation

From what I understood misted glass can be caused by vapours given off by the various plastics in the car;- this certainly applies to new cars but whether it would to a 35 year old is debatable.

Re: Found a scary problem with my steering rack !!

Someone in the past ownership must have tried to tighten up the balljoint to remove play but they haven't locked the balljoint socket and locknut together. Ford drilled into between the two and locked them together with a pin hammered in. I don't know whether said pins are available but I would wind...
