Re: As this is Rant and Rave....

I am trying to start a new minority group. For the most persecuted, vilified people in the country. We will be called WHOMs White Heterosexual Omnivorous Males :D :agree: :agree: Can you somehow extend the acronym to include single with no children men? We get screwed but unfortunately by the counc...

Mental.

These weren't very stable as a standard one - I'd kill myself!

Which chase did you watch? There were two - an Audi chasing a Citroen XM through the backstreets of Nice and the Paris chase. On balance I think the Nice chase was the best IMHO.

:applaud: :applaud: That's a spot on description Andrew and it also applies to boot and ignition locks that are playing up. It also applies to most makes of cars, not just Fords - wish I had a quid for every VW and Vauxhall one I've done!

Re: Help! Take a look at the Capri timeline

As far as I can remember the Laser actually started life as a limited edition model and was adapted later in 1984 to be the mainstream 4 cylinder model. Regarding the MK2 S, the S became a mainstream model in early 1976 with no front spoiler, the gold seat centre material and the earlier right hand ...

Re: Ford Bridgend

Can’t believe that so Dagenham engine plant will be the only ford place in the U.K. . My grandad was asked to work there back in the 70s and he did not go because of family also he had a golf cart to take him around the Dagenham plant as it was that big . I wonder what our Steve thinks of this as t...

Re: Ford Bridgend

I fear it won't be the last European Ford factory to be closed unfortunately. Ford USA have said that they are stopping building all cars and just concentrating on the pick up trucks which is their most profitable market area so I expect it will follow that other factories will get the chop and they...

Ronin

Stayed up late last night to watch a re-run of Ronin on ITV3. One of my favorite films and IMHO the best car chase (s) of any film.

I'd stick with a completely standard exhaust. About £90 for a full system delivered including all brackets. Klarius, excellent sound/tone they give out.

Re: Laser 1600

The little "thingy" by the coil is an aftermarket radio suppressor. The original was a black box that would have been bolted to the block under the fuel pump and the condenser LT wire attached to it.

Re: Laser 1600

Have you tried substituting a known good plug and / or lead to no 1 cyl to see if that improves things?

Even new ones these days can be duffy.

Ater this it may pay to do compression test and take off rocker cover to check valve clearance hasn't tightened up.

Mum had a single tub one with separate spin dryer. It had a mangle on the top of it.

I've still got the spin dryer and it works, not that I ever use it.

Re: Leaf spring front bolt

The hole through the chassis is sleeved at the factory. The steel centre sleeve in the front spring bush allows the bolt to be fully tightened and should not be fully tightened until the weight of the car is on its wheels.

Re: Weber 32/36 choke.

Get your ignition side right before touching the carb. try new points, properly gapped and preferably set with a dwell meter for accuracy, then your ignition timing accurately set and a fresh set of plugs, again properly gapped to the specification. You will be amazed at the difference this usually ...

Great looking car. Not many Police Forces used Capris but my local Thames Valley had unmarked ones back in the early eighties - mainly Cardinal red.

I did watch this a couple of days ago and just thought that if this is how he goes about un-seizing the engine then what will the rest of his resto be like?

That is so long as it lasts that long and doesn't burn to the ground.

I've never seen one over here fitted with A/C, factory or aftermarket. Probably best to study American ones to see what's fitted.
