Re: Who Remembers?

Mum had a single tub one with separate spin dryer. It had a mangle on the top of it.

I've still got the spin dryer and it works, not that I ever use it.

Re: Leaf spring front bolt

The hole through the chassis is sleeved at the factory. The steel centre sleeve in the front spring bush allows the bolt to be fully tightened and should not be fully tightened until the weight of the car is on its wheels.

Re: Weber 32/36 choke.

Get your ignition side right before touching the carb. try new points, properly gapped and preferably set with a dwell meter for accuracy, then your ignition timing accurately set and a fresh set of plugs, again properly gapped to the specification. You will be amazed at the difference this usually ...

Re: Police Capri In Wales

Great looking car. Not many Police Forces used Capris but my local Thames Valley had unmarked ones back in the early eighties - mainly Cardinal red.

Re: I do like Percy Veerance

I did watch this a couple of days ago and just thought that if this is how he goes about un-seizing the engine then what will the rest of his resto be like?

That is so long as it lasts that long and doesn't burn to the ground.

I've never seen one over here fitted with A/C, factory or aftermarket. Probably best to study American ones to see what's fitted.

Could you get it reconditioned?

What happened to cause you to need a new converter?

Might pay to ring Chiltern Transmissions - 01494-534805. I'm not sure that they do automatics, but they may know someone who could help you.

I'm afraid I still don't like it. The fact that they took a mint 2.8i and did that to it - yuk.

It's like taking the Mona Lisa and painting a moustache and a cock on it. :( :turd:

Re: New Car Show

I really enjoyed the programme and it's good to see the whole show without tossers like Brewer etc using it as a platform to stroke their egos. Yes Andy, the price that one wreck of a car made (won't spoil it for others) beggared belief. WTF would you do with it? Even if you got a new shell everythi...

Re: Insurance declarations

I think it's high time that either the Government or the Insurance Ombudsman had a real good look at the way Insurance companies and comparison sites (Go Compare et al) carry on. Back in the dim and distant (1979) when I got my first car (a MK1 850cc Mini) I had the Co op agent call round and he had...

I'm looking forward to the new car show "Bangers and Cash" starting on the Yesterday channel tonight at 8pm. Looks really good in the trailers.

It's all about the auctioneers D T Matthewson in Yorkshire.

Re: Harrier Jump Jet

Air travel went backwards 50 years when they grounded Concord. Modern aircraft aren't much if any faster than the VC10 or Boeing 707 were in the sixties and they're a darned sight less comfortable to fly in as well. (In economy at least).

I also don't agree with the MOT exemption as it stands. I do think that vehicles should have a basic safety check every year say just covering tyres, brakes, suspension and steering as well as serious structual corrosion. The pre 1977 MOT test requirements were little more than this anyway so it wou...

Probably best to get a complete A-pillar repair from Express panels for that Danny. I think they're on offer at the minute.

Meant to ask but have you got the gear linkage sorted on the GL now and how is the rebuilt engine doing?

Re: speed limiters

Plus side of this is at least you can outrun the rozzers in their limited cars! I think it's a good idea from a safety point of view but does pose the question of what they expect to happen with older cars in the future... I think you can safely bet that the coppers' cars won't be limited. I ...

Re: 3.0 Electric fan

Is that Spaghetti Carbonara or Spaghetti hoops in there? My Laser was bad with two aftermarket alarms DIY wired in there but that takes it to a new level! Seriously Danny I would, with the help of wiring diagrams, remove the lot and start again. Most of the Ford wiring is wrapped in loom tape except...
