Re: Interesting.....

I've studied this car quite a bit as it reminds me of Jack Reagan's Consul GT. Something doesn't ring right with me about this example and I'm wondering if it's a South African import purely because I think the interior is all wrong for a Euro/UK spec GXL. The UK ones had an immitation wood surround...

Re: thermostat housing advice please.

Jason, before you go throwing good money on new parts may I suggest that you loosen the coolant hose clip about a quarter of a turn and then re-tighten it. Clean the old crud off it then give it a while (ie a few weeks) and see if it comes back or is leaking. What anti-feeeze are you using? Capri's ...

Re: Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars Series 2

Don't usually watch this show as I don't like Drew :wank: Pritchard but made an exception because of the cars covered in it. I did learn that 82 model 2.0s had lazer striped Recaro's with fishnets which was a new one on me, I thought most of the post - Carla trimmed ones were just sports seats like ...

Re: 1000 mile laser

My 186,000 mile Laser is cleaner than that under the bonnet. That rust at the top of the rear wing could be nasty if it's gone to holes, added to £700 for a front panel from Express panels. Plus for most of us there's the aggro of getting it transported from Ireland.

IMHO its worth £2,000 max.

Re: Brooklands Ford Meet 1977'

With the Cortinas, Mk 4 models could have headlight washers as an optional extra on S and Ghia models. These were of the high pressure water jet type as on a Capri and are identified by having big thick over riders on the bumpers in front of the headlamps which contained the nozzles. The Mk5 also ha...

Re: Rear wheel arches

How did you progress with this? Butt welding is preferable, as mentioned, series of spots first to prevent distortion due to too much heat. http://autoshite.com/uploads/monthly_04_2017/post-20612-0-11366500-1492260252.jpg Trying to work out what car this is - is it a MK1 Granada Ghia Coupe?

Re: 6200 mile 280

A beautiful example, probably one of the best out there. This said is it worth paying more than double the price of what the others seem to be advertised for for something that you couldn't really drive or risk damaging?

Re: Hello 2019 !

Good old Somerset registrations Andy. My dad worked in Burnham on Sea and his last car was a Merc 280SE, reg B600 VYD. Unfortunately he passed away in 1987. Another major 50th birthday this year is the Queen of the Skies - the Boeing 747. I think this plane deserves a mention for making long distanc...

.
I learnt how to drive in a X reg Peugeot 504 :drive: Dad had two between 1980 and 84.
I would have thought that would have been a 505 by X-reg Andy. The last 504's, apart from the pick-up were sold in 78/79. Still a damn good car, we had one at work as a hack and it had done over 3...

Re: Hello 2019 !

The post wasn't really about which other cars are 50 this year but in addition to the Capri and the Maxi, the Renault 12 (which went on to be the first Dacia), that motorised armchair the Peugeot 504 and the then ground-breaking Fiat 128 were also introduced. The 128 was ground - breaking as it was ...

Re: Mk3 Capri - Door shut weatherstrip clips

Why don't you just wait until next week then ring Martin at Capri Gear. I bet he's got a pot full of these and it's a case of putting Ford stuff on a Ford car. Apart from being cable tidys, I guess the other reason for these specific clips and where they are located is to stop anyone putting a screw...

Re: Mk3 Capri - Door shut weatherstrip clips

I was of the opinion that they are just cable tidy clips and that the door step trims are purely held on by the screws. The rubber door seal is self - gripping and holds the cable tidy clips in place.

This bloke could probably repair that Capri.

He's a talented man but whether what he does is right or wrong I'll leave for others to debate.

Re: Worth restoring, a few dolly's wil fix that.

It makes you cringe when you think of all the valuable parts on that just crushed and thrown away. Still, it's the way 98% of Capris have gone and why ours that are left are getting rare and conversely more valuable.
