Re: respray

You are right, sometimes the 'man maths' takes over! I have spent £more than I'd planned on getting my Capri done right and it's an investment in the car remaining safe and in good condition for the future. I am not encumbered with a significant other to tell me off for it... just myself! As for the...

Re: 1.6L restoration

Right, where are we. Progress - slow. I took the starter motor off and to the local refurb company in Borehamwood (Unit Exchange). Although it worked fine I thought it sensible to have it refurbished whilst I was doing everything else, some bearings were a little rough so were replaced and a full re...

Re: 2.8i tank wanted

Personally, I would advocate going through CapriGear, CCI, Tickover etc wherever possible as you get the backup of a known person of good standing who will see you right if there's a problem, or the part doesn't fit, etc, rather than someone off ebay with an unknown background!

Re: Rear axle noise?

You can eliminate the prop centre bearing by spraying it with WD40 (other brands are available) as that will *temporarily* stop the noise.

Re: respray

I have a good relationship with my local garage, but there are some things where no sane person would take the risk (or want to take the risk). When I had welding done, I stripped the interior out, did a fair bit of the wire brushing and scraping back of the underseal, but I still knew the welder wo...

Re: Laser + GL and now a 3.0S!

As I found out for myself, it's something that you have to do and at least it'll be sorted for some time yet, once it's done.

And if you're anything like me, you'll end up adding to the scope...

Re: 1.6L restoration

I’m impressed Tom, looking great! To be honest, scares the crap out of me doing all that. In case I lose anything, break anything or damage anything as I am pretty heavy handed. Can’t wait to see it again. And you of course! I'll let you into a secret. Scares the crap out of me, too! And I haven't ...

Re: 1.6L restoration

Hi Paul - yes, it probably would have been Brooklands. There were a number of elements of corrosion which needed addressing permanently, which had been kept at bay with kurust and underseal, a couple of MoT plates in recent years, plus there were a lot of suspicious bits which I knew were filler. An...

Yes, that was my daily for a few years, but unfortunately it was a casualty of ULEZ.

Re: 1.6L restoration

Nice to see what has been done, I suggest a good dose of cavity rust protection once the paint has been applied. Dont be tempted to do it before hand as a lot of these products contain silicones. The other thing I suggest is every bolt and nut gets a dose of Copper grease on the threads and contact...

Re: History of D754NDB

You can contact DVLA and request information on a vehicle, used to cost around £5 I think, not sure of current costs. https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla Unfortunately, Swansea will no longer release this information without a reason to do so - and unfortunately researching history is ...

1.6L restoration

Hi all, I've been reasonably quiet recently and you'll have noticed no updates on my Capri. Last summer, I decided that as autumn approached, it was time for her to come off the road and receive attention to a number of areas bodywork-wise. The only thing to do was to bite the bullet and get everyth...

Finally!! After dropping the dash yet again and removing as much as I could -including the dash pods- to investigate the wiring, beyond the melty but I couldn't see anything untoward on any of the other circuits at all. After realising that the washer bottle was on fuse one, along with the clock, i...

I'm planning on getting a nice few runs out whilst I still can. Nice one Tom. 590 is a credit to you. Lovely Capri.! Can you drive up Muswell Hill one d...
