Re: Undersealing

One of the things about the canned waxoyl is you still have to apply it in appropriate conditions etc. If it is warm it will be vastly easier to apply than if cold. I take a bucket of hot water out when I do it, or leave the waxoyl cans in the sun for a little while first! I have an old bit of carpe...

Re: mot today

Hurrah! Lucky no rain today!

Nick I believe that the MoT "certificate" we get now has in itself no legal standing. The thing that matters is the record on the DVLC central computer, the printout merely being a confirmation of that.

Re: No MOT.....

I personally don't want to drive anywhere in a death trap :!: Whether a car is exempt from an MOT or not, it still has to be in roadworthy condition. That won't change under the new legislation. Perhaps we will see insurance companies using assessors in the event of a claim to ensure that MOT exemp...

Re: Car feels weird lol

This story of cars being the last on the production line getting all sorts of crap fitted to them is a myth! I'm glad you posted that , it's good to know :) I've said something similar on another thread. If Ford changed manufacturing parts then I believe it was for a reason, such as R & D, and ...

Re: Exhaust recommendations

I have a Sportex system on my 1.6; it's ok on most speed bumps but will scrape if there's anything in the boot. There's a particular set of speed bumps in Watford that always cause an awful scraping noise mind. I did have some problems last year as a rubber mount has deteriorated and as theres not ...

Re: Road Tax Price

As many have said in the past maybe scrap road tax and put the price onto petrol, so the more you drive the more you pay and everyone pays..... Makes sense to me. Andrew. I agree. Same for things like the emissions charges, c charge etc where I think everyone should have a quota of days they can dr...

Re: Handbrake Switch

Thanks for the reply. You were correct with the wire colour and how many. I checked the lamp and that was fine but on further inspection I found the tabs to connect the instrument cluster to the lamp were squashed and not completing the circuit. Tested both handbrake and brake reservoir and all is ...

Re: Yearly mileage.....

couldn't imagine pressure washing it for example. No, I never use a pressure washer on the Capri. I use a dry cloth and regular car cleaning products for cleaning the suspension, crossmember, axle and those sorts of things. Andrew. I have to admit that I have done - mainly to remove any crud from t...

They've been good to deal with and very efficient. I've got recovery arranged through them which puts the price up a bit, but worth it for peace of mind?

Re: Electronic ignition

I don't get any trouble from the points set up You have answered your own post there I think :) Points get my vote also. Same here, though mainly through "if it works don't fix it". If I started having to re gap the points regularly, or if for some reason needed a new distributor, I'd pro...

Pick up some activator if you can, then no need to hold stuff whilst you wait for it to cure!

Re: boot struts

Last year they quoted me £48 to re gas or £56 to supply new. On top of the £48 you'd have to send your existing ones off, so at that price differential I'd just buy new I think. That said, with other things being bigger priorities I never got around to actually ordering in the end. I tell myself I'l...

Pinto rocker cover

Hi, I have a narrow lip early rocker cover and the front isn't a very good seal and tends to lose oil, despite much gentle persuasion into place. Looking at getting a new rocker cover and fitting that, are the later wide rim ones a straight swap (i.e. nothing changed on the engine they just modified...

Re: Stolen!

:agree: Buying time is the main thing.....But if they want it badly enough they will get it whatever you try to protect it. Don't forget though that they don't always want it that bad. Sometimes it's because it looks easy. Making it harder will still stop some potential thieves, so deterrents are s...

Re: A new classic

:agree: Lovely looking car. What frightened me was that I looked at the prices of the rest of the Ford range - base Fiesta £13600 and base Focus £20,000. I know you would be able to get a good discount on that but it's still frightening to think that they are that much now. I remember back in 1987 ...

I'd assume the manual choke would be fitted to a carb replacing the original VV - a 34ich or similar.

I had planned to meet a friend in Norfolk at the weekend thinking that with it being spring it would be a good moment for the first decent run in the Capri. Needless to say such thoughts have been put on hold!

Yes that would be ok, but for those of us that SORN over winter it's not an option.

Re: Jobs in this cold weather

Presumably starting up and going for a half hour drive is fine then as you get up to temperature and re charge the battery? I've tried to look at the handbrake light (and failed!), think I will get my decent multimeter from work and borrow a gas soldering iron if necessary. Even jobs like that aren'...
