Re: RS3100 restoration
Thanks guys :D Yep, restoring a gxl is very similar.....there aren't many differences, but I'd say a gxl is trickier to source parts for, as there are a lot of unique parts to the car that no other version of the capri had.....bits of trim, lights in the boot and under the bonnet, some interior trim...

Re: Official Cosworth Capri
On the subject of this thread though, I think the guy you spoke to was mis informed. I've been a capri nut since the 80's...as I'm sure others here are. I've got binders full of articles, pretty sure I have the majority of books published on the capri, even German ones and I've never heard of any me...

Re: RS3100 restoration
Well, after working on and off on the capri, we have some updates! Having fitted the heads, I realised that the head on the drivers side, where the alternator bracket attached, had a snapped bolt! Bugger, should have noticed this....so off with the heads and swap them around, plus new head gaskets.....

Re: Official Cosworth Capri
Hi Matt, yes, family gets in the way, but I have just put the engine in! I'll update my thread, but photobucket seems to be having issues tonight. I'll post a picture of the bike. Street Triple R.

Re: Just arrived, very large parts consignment
I'm after the drivers side door trim/capping that goes on the top of the door and the outer glass seal fits into.

Re: Official Cosworth Capri
I recognise that car! I must admit I've not posted in a long time either....the V8mk2 is still in fine fettle, while I'm still putting together the RS! Stu is not impressed! .....and funnily enough, I've been and bought a triumph!

Re: Registering a new engine without V5 document
Once you have the new V5 back, you can then fill in the relevant parts to do with an engine change, so engine number and size and then send back to dvla. As has been said, the dvla may want to see a receipt for the engine and/or a letter from a garage that fitted it. I did mine many moons ago....aro...

Re: RS3100 restoration
so now the weather is getting better,..and now it's crap again, I thought I would do an update, as I've been working on the RS for some reason or another! So, into the black bin bag of looms and the first one out is the interior loom. It's actually in pretty good shape with only fairly minor problem...

Re: Hazard perception???
I've just done the motorcycle hazard perception using the official training CD to revise. My conclusion is that it's a game, as having driven for 20 plus years, I was doing the same thing. My approach was watch, click when you see a hazard. Wait a second, then click again....then another click in an...

Re: Is the market over saturated?
I think it's a case of the wrong time of year and a less desirable spec of car. When it comes to resto costs, it costs pretty much the same to restore a 1.6 GL compared to a 3.0s, yet the 3.0 s will sell for considerably more, so people are willing to put the cash in. Having said that, not an unreas...

Re: RS3100 restoration
Very interesting points. Although acid dips sound the most thorough method, they also have plenty of down-sides. As well as the ones mentioned, you also have the concern of not knowing everything that has been removed, if that makes sense. If you're removing paint by hand you are seeing everything ...

Re: RS3100 restoration
Yep, agree about the priming. My restorer/painter is the same. They want to have control over the whole process, which I agree with as I don't want to get into a finger pointing game should an issue occur. In this case the blaster and restorer/painter have a great working relationship where the pain...

Re: RS3100 restoration
I have a question regarding the soda blasting. I've been reading up on the various different methods and I've heard a lot about the concerns and difficulties with removing all the residue after the blasting is done. The blast is tiny particles of bicarb and can cause quite aggressive, premature rus...
