Re: 1600 v 2000

Hi. I have had my 2.0 (now modded but that's another story) for many years. If all is standard then the 1.6 with a VV is a bit feeble, once had one with a webber fitted and it went well enough, slightly freer revving than a 2.0 but I prefer the extra grunt of the bigger engine. If they both have web...

Re: Capri half life

I bought my (now 32 yr old) Capri laser in 1992 so have owned it 25 years and passed the half life ages ago. It was probably still my daily then! What I think about is the mileage, and if I'll ever get chance to wear it out. I probably put 2-3000 on it per year, 30k currently on it's mildly tweaked ...

Mine was getting difficult to turn. WD40 solved it.

Re: efi stuff

Now, given that rudimentary explanation, try to explain how efi cars use less fuel, because my limited explanation would suggest the opposite is true! The EFi pump sucks much larger volumes of fuel out of the tank but sends most of it straight back there unless you've buried the accelerator in the ...

Re: efi stuff

I managed it all by myself having never done anything like that before. Well worth it and should last well. Fuel system was the fiddlyest bit. Wiring was easy, just feed the loom with ignition switched 12v and connect it to all its bits. Take care with the fuel system as if you don't do your pipewor...

Re: FREE rear seat backs

Don't get to Watford much so haven't seen it.
Seat backs will be heading dumpwards if not taken in the next week or so, shame really, somebody somewhere must want them.

FREE rear seat backs

Pair metal carpeted fold down rear seat backs from a Capri laser, not including foam seat panels. Good condion, ideal replacement if yours are missing or damaged. Come and take them away before they go to the dump as I don't need them. Collect from Uxbridge/Ruislip.

Re: what sierra for EFI conversion

You'll need the head too as the inlet ports are a different shape, can't fit an injection manifold directly to normal head as the injectors need the egg shaped ports. I used a running (just) granny for my conversion so I knew I had everything (I used the whole engine). Parts are on ebay but try and ...

2.1 EFi Laser

Have owned this since 1992. originally a 2.0 laser, used regularly and lived outside until 2004. In 2001 I converted it to EFi with a new Vulcan engine. Bodywork is unrestored apart from front end respray. It now lives a life of luxury in the garage but does get used for long weekend trips away and ...

Re: A GOOD PINTO ENGINE

If you do an injection conversion, a standard BHP will be about 115 at flywheel but the car will be so much more responsive it will feel faster. I recently owned a 2.0i Sierra with the only mod being a 4 branch. it felt faster than a standard 2.0 capri despite being heavier. You'll get fuel economy ...

Re: How reliable would a Capri be for long distance touring?

It obviously depends on the car you buy. Mine is well maintained and sorted and I would have no hesitation in driving it to the south of France tomorrow (it's done it before). Get one as far as poss in advance of your trip so you can do some journeys in it in the UK to check it's reliable and give i...

Re: Five speed boxes and pinto's

Have had the same 5 speed in my 2.0 laser for the last 16 years and 90k miles. Halfway through that I uprated the engine to 2.1EFi which equals a LOT more shove, yet the gearbox is still going ok. Change the oil in it every 20k.......

Re: Efi conversion

Yes, do it! I got a (sort of) running Granada and took the bits off that so I knew I had everything bar the tank. it was my first ever engine swap job and I managed it all by myself, it's not hard to wire up. new fuel lines were the fiddliest bit. Basically you need to feed the ECU and loom with 12v...
