2.8i underbody protection
Hi and I hope you all had a good Christmas. I have been cleaning all the old mud and muck from under the wheel arches and under the car to see if there are any rust horrors and thankfully not. The bodywork underneath is remarkably good and as I have been using the wire brush, some of the original un...

Re: Windscreen washer not working
Hi all, The windscreen washer is alive once again. It was simply the male spade connector on the side of the fuse box needing a good clean. I had the mot on Friday and despite the car being unwelded and really solid, there was a small rust hole half way down the drivers side A post visible when you ...

Re: Windscreen washer not working
Thank you all for your advice on what to check. I will be trying to resolve it this week and will update you all as the car has the first MOT since 2013 on Friday so I need to fix it before then and I'm cutting it a bit fine.
Thanks again all.
Thanks again all.

Windscreen washer not working
Hi, I'm getting my 1984 2.8i back on the road and the next step is an MOT. I've noticed that the front windscreen washer isn't working. I initially thought it was just the motor but there is no power getting to the motor. The lead comes from the wiring loom. The car has been laid up since 2013 and I...

WANTED Essex V6 flywheel
WANTED Essex V6 flywheel.
I recently removed the 3.0 engine from my Capri and the flywheel is not in good shape.
Would be grateful if anyone has one for sale?

Essex V6 Camshaft
Hi, I've stripped down the Essex V6 in my Capri for a rebuild and I'm trying to identify the camshaft, which doesn't appear to be standard. The heads are stage 2 with bigger inlet and I wonder if the camshaft was changed at the same time. Does anyone know how to identify it from the markings as belo...

Re: 2.8i valve adjustment
Hi Neil,
Thanks I'll check that. I read an article that they get tighter over time as the valves recess into the valve seats because of unleaded petrol without the additive.
It's good to have a forum like this and thanks again for your help.

Re: 2.8i valve adjustment
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your reply that makes so much sense now and thanks for the link to the Ford workshop manual, what a difference to the Haynes.
Much appreciated.

2.8i valve adjustment
Hi all, I'm rebuilding the top end of my 2.8i after replacing the head gaskets and now checking the valve clearances. I have the Haynes manual but a little stuck on checking the valves as I'm used to working on the 3l Essex engine. The manual says to turn the engine to align the crank pully mark wit...

Re: Cylinder head torque setting 2.8i
Thanks for your replies that's really helpful. I'm looking for a head gasket set to put it back together. There's quite a variety of prices. Burton do Felpro, which are £50 a pair just for the head gaskets or £60 for a complete head set but are a different make. Does anyone know what head gaskets ar...

Cylinder head torque setting 2.8i
I'm going to do the head gasket on my 2.8i as I think the drivers side is leaking. The haynes maual says when refitting they should be tightened at stage 4 between 70 to 85, which seems quite a variation. Does anyone know what the best torque setting on the cologne?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Question about 2.8i starter motor
Yes the bell housing should match up OK, I did have one for mine briefly but sold it on. I believe the flywheel is also the same (can't confirm 100%) but you may well find that a 3 bolt starter is more expensive than the clutch kit for the standard bell housing. Thanks for your advice. The 3 bolt st...

Question about 2.8i starter motor
Happy new year to you all. I have an alloy bellhousing and sandwich plate from a 2.8i sierra which fits a type 9, 5 speed gearbox in my garage and as I need to replace the clutch on my 2.8i capri. I wondered if it will fit the capri. The only difference is the alloy bellhousing needs a 3 bolt starte...

Re: Capri 28i Special/280 wheel center badges
Hi, Do you still have any of the wheel centres available and are they metal?
I'm also after a key for them as mine is missing?
I have the 15" genuine Brooklands wheels with RS centre caps, which aren't the correct caps for the car.
Thanks
Anthony

Re: 2.8i coolant loss
Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply. I hope it's not cracked heads as the previous owner had unleaded heads fitted. I replaced front and rear thermostat housings as they were corroded and the housing on the inlet manifold where the temperature sensor is. I also used some engine silicone on reassembling t...

2.8i coolant loss
I've been renovating my 1984 2.8i and drained the coolant as it was brown sludge. I have replaced a leaking water pump, motorcraft thermostat (as it didn't have one from previous owner), hoses, flushed rad and heater matrix. The previous owner said it was leaking coolant and on running the engine si...

2.8i Brake master cylinder
Hi, I'm restoring my 2.8i and removed the servo to repaint as it was rusty. I noticed brake fluid inside the servo. The brakes seemed to work ok when it was last used a few months ago. I guess the brake master cylinder is leaking. Is it easy to get a seals kit for these if it's not pitted or to buy ...
