Four Spoke Wheel Refurbishment

Hi chaps, hope you're all well. Was just curious if anyone knows of or has any tips of where in the South East to get four spoke 13 inch alloys refurbished and laithed with the classic alloy rim and black spokes job. I had a quote for 40 quid a wheel a few years back before I took the car off the ro...

I've made a HUGE mistake.

Took the bold decision to cut out the rust damage and respray my roof a month or so back and stupidly removed the sunroof. I unbolted it from the black runners and upon refitting I winded the roof back in and unsurprisingly it made contact and removed a small amount of paint, I've tried re a...

New leaf springs, should I bother?

Hi guys, Went to get my wheels balanced yesterday & the garage decided not too do the front as the wheels were towing outwards so far that the inside of the tyres were barely legal & would render it pointless. Their conclusion was that the worn leaf springs on the rear had allowed the front ...

Re: Failed MOT, are they having a laugh?

Thanks for the replies, most people saying what i was expecting, will deffinately go to local garage next time, theyve always been fine but i got pursuaded to use halfords as it was half the price. Have replaced both the wings and no sign of anything when ive done it, pretty sure it wasnt built with...

Failed MOT, are they having a laugh?

Just had an MOT at halfords, car has been off the road for 6 months as ive been doing loads of work on it, so nice driving again. Had an MOT at Halfords today, failed on a few things but the main one was no indicators on the wings?!?! Never had this problem before and never heard of it, thought they...

Re: Dodgy head torque settings.

Just had a look on the torque wrench, 75 Nm is about 55ft/lbs, surely thats not right when I was going to about 75 ft/lbs and it was still not working? Or does the extra 90 degrees at the end make up for the difference?

Re: Dodgy head torque settings.

Yea theyre the stretch bolts, i used the others before and kept stripping the heads, this is the first time ive replaced them since ive had problems so hopefully this will do the job, ive said that plenty of times though and it keeps breaking down.

Re: Dodgy head torque settings.

Right bit of confusion here, I was going with what the Haynes manual was saying, had a first stage, second stage, third stage after 20 mins and fourth stage when running for 15 minutes. The gasket set i had from CPA had settings using degrees like you have just said where you slacken it 90 then do p...

Re: Dodgy head torque settings.

Yea if you could let me know the settings that would be brilliant. The only other thing is ive ordered new gasket and bolts from burton power and they seem to have different settings, surely you go buy the bolts rather than the gasket?

Re: Dodgy head torque settings.

Ive replaced the whole electronic system and it starts fine but cuts out so i dont reckon its the condensor. I didnt know about the different settings for the different bolts, Ive got the 6 point stretch ones and ill probably replace them as that could be a concern. How do i find out about the diffe...

Dodgy head torque settings.

The first time after I finished my engine rebuild I went for the MOT and the engine stalled after the first corner and wouldnt start, did a compression test and was low and realized I had forgotten to do the final torque setting when the engine had warmed up. Replaced the gasket and the engine start...

Re: What the hell is going on with my Capri?

Replaced the head gasket and it started fine, bit of a squeeking noise 5 minutes into the 15 minute running required in the haynes manuel before the final torque setting. Did the final torque setting few minutes after and now it sounds like its seized up due to lack of oil. Cannot be arsed to get th...

Re: What the hell is going on with my Capri?

Pretty sure Ive found the problem. Finally borowed a mates compression tester and all the cylinders where in the mid 90s instead of the required 125psi. I think I must of missed out on the final torque setting thats needed once the engines running as the gasket was in good condition. Putting the hea...

Re: What the hell is going on with my Capri?

I took the top off the carb and gave it a good clean and then got all new electronics, new leads, points, condensor, dizzy cap, rotor arm, the spark wasnt great before but looks pretty good now, properly all out of ideas, taken the carb fully off the car and will give it a clean.

Im all out of ideas.
