Re: Outer sill replacement

I don't think anyone would say cut your losses with it, especially after owning the car for so long, sill repairs are one of the most common repairs on old and even more modern cars due to rot etc, the full pre-fabricated steel sill sections can still be bought off the shelf for these cars if you ca...

Re: Type 9 gearbox crossmember

I have a 5 speed fitted in my MK1, I could not find anything to bolt straight in at the time I was doing the conversion so I ended up just modifying my existing gearbox mount by welding heavy steel plate on and drilling new holes and shimming it as required, the 5 speed does sit further back in the ...

Re: Rear springs 1.6 laser

I bought new multi leaf springs for my Mk1 here a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly they are are manufactured by Owen Springs in the UK. Good communication from them too regards questions and double checking measurements etc. They also sent the bushings separate and not installed as I sai...

Re: Bike carbs, throttle pedal

I have 40mm cvk carbs fitted to mine from my zx9r, by pure chance I thought I'd try the throttle cable from the bike as well and it was a perfect fit and length. I ran it over the rocker cover and through the existing hole in the bulkhead, the only mod needed was to ground the nipple  down at...

Re: Burts motorsport

I bought a cylinder head from him a good while back, guy is an arsehole. He sold it as a refurbed head with an unleaded conversion done and the inserts fitted, I have it all in some old post on here somewhere if you want to read through the details. Anyway, there was no conversion done and he made s...

Re: Is there a reason , why the #&*k

Bit of a ball-ache if not intending to clean up chambers or valves etc alright. I presume it's something to do with their design of the bearing housings for the cam, but as I understand it the centre and rear pillars are the weakest and the centre bearing takes the greatest punishment from the valve...

Re: Power steering

Tickover are referring to the solid billet roller top mounts not the the ones encased in rubber like the o.e ones, the rally design mounts are based on fords own design and are a tapered bearing encased in rubber mount, they also sell the spherical bearing top mount in the same type. The solid adjus...

Re: Power steering

Tapered roller top mounts made a difference to mine, Rally design do them http://rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=21397, not cheap though and you have to buy sleeve inserts with them too. The good thing with the Corsa B set-up is that that you can fit a control unit which allows you to...

Re: Good looking 15" wheels

I'll be fitting a set of banded steel wheels powdercoated in flat satin black to mine when I go to change to 15". I don't know if they would suit the look you want for your car but I love the look of them and they'll suit the way I have mine done.

Re: unleaded heads

I've done pinto seals plenty of times using the sealey airline adaptor and valve spring compressor, real easy to do and makes a real quick job of seal replacement, they're fairly cheap to buy if you shop around, I have used them a good few times so it was well worth me buying the right tools for the...

Re: unleaded heads

Only the exhaust valve seats need the inserts and recut/grind, best to clean up the rest of the head at the same time too if you go ahead with it, also do your research and find a crowd with a good rep to do it, there are a lot of shysters operating out there.

Re: 4 or 5 speed box

I got my parts from www.bearingkits.co.uk and www.autogear.uk.com Gearboxes are fine to work on but you would want to be fairly handy with the spanners to start with, it's a far cry from a plug or oil change, that said, if you don't try then you don't learn. The old haynes manuals have all the info ...

Re: 4 or 5 speed box

I had a 5 speed I was thinking of using, after deciding the bearings needed replacing I did a closer inspection of the internals, the input shaft gear had a few damaged teeth and so had the corresponding gear on the countershaft, just in parts it was going to be too expensive. My original 4 speed ha...

Re: DASH COVERS

I've used Top gaitors leather dash cover, glovebox cover and pillar covers in my MK1, they were well worth getting but do take a lot of time and care to fit correctly, but they completely transform the interior of the car, my interior is all black, not sure what other colours would be like but can't...

Re: Help Overheating!

Long part of the stat with the spring should face into the engine block, I usually run the car with the heater on full and the rad cap off to completely expel any air, I do it a couple of times to be sure. Be careful if taking cap off a warm engine as pressure will be in the system, also double chec...

That's great John, exactly what was needed :applaud: , really appreciate that so thanks very much for taking the time. Cheers John, much appreciated if you get a chance. I went ahead and installed the servo and the master cylinder anyway and picked up a new roll of copper pipe and unions to make up the new lines over the weekend.

Re: 2.8 brake layout

Anybody :?: :?: :?: Any 2.8 owners know anything about the brake set-up and what way it's plumbed in with the bias valve etc.:?: I'll rebuild the old single outlet master cylinder if I have to but would rather use the newer set-up if I could.

Re: 3.0 unleaded heads

Never heard of that happening to anybody's engine at all unless some sort of total gimp did the job. I'd only go to the bother of fitting the inserts if you are going to do a good refurb of the heads altogether anyway, if you do go that route just be sure to bring them to a good reputable engine shop.
