2.1 pinto rebuild

I have a 2.1 205 block with Mahle pistons injection rods and group 2 bolts. I have a stage 3 head with brass valve guides and max size valves for inlet and outlet already fitted. Questions 1) Been built on engine stand what bolts do I need to fix to the stand? 2) Can I use a crank and sump from a 16...

Re: 2040cc engine build advice sought

Good question I should of made it clear the difference between 165 and 1.6 blocks. The 165 block uses the same crank and rods as the 205 block. The older 1.6 block does have shorter rods as you said but the pistons in the 165 and the 1.6 block are completely different sizes as are the rods due to th...

205 block for rebuild 1mm over bore

Building a 205 block 1mm over bore engine from scratch any advice regarding what is the best way to go ie pistons etc and head? I was considering using the crank and rods from a 165 block as they are the same as the 205 ARP bolts and Mahle pistons 1mm over size. I was considering using the 165 (port...

Re: REAR SHOCKS OR LEAF SPRINGS?

Thanks for the response everyone it has been very useful  . When I bought the car about 5-6 years ago I was told the rear multis were new from CCI six months earlier. From the replies it sounds as though the multis have had it. It looks like I need to change the springs! I already have an axle...

Re: REAR SHOCKS OR LEAF SPRINGS?

Its my 12yr old son in the pic. (no offence taken). I beleived the cars front springs were original and the rear multi leafs were only 6months old (not used for 6 years). I suppose the rear springs may have lost their original shape and possibly either the fronts were lowered or passed there best. T...

Re: Hi all, newbie from wolverhampton

Sorry misread re gauge. Was the rev counter working before? If it was check the connector block is secure and then check the plastic circuit has not burnt out any where. If these are ok then check connectors on coil and then wiring. I am not sure how to advise regarding running a current directly to...

Re: Hi all, newbie from wolverhampton

Alternator is around the £45 - £65 new on EBAY, the petrol gauge could lose conections (clean) or the sender unit. Was it working prior to removing the dash? If it was did you remove the gauge at all or has the needle become disconnected (2 very thin pieces of metal hook on the needle) or it is poss...

Re: REAR SHOCKS OR LEAF SPRINGS?

My Capri is standard road to floor height 15cms lowest point, road to exhaust 12cms with 0.5 cm max clearance floor pan to exhaust. These are the distances unladen (no one in it) as the cars suspension is designed to absorb the bumps if you push the rear end down it will move between 2-4cms and then...

REAR SHOCKS OR LEAF SPRINGS?

I have fitted new gas filled KYB shocks, polybushed the complete rear suspension system and it has fairly new rear multi leaf springs. My problem is that when I hit a pot hole or go over a speed bump with passengers in the back I get a loud knock/bang. The exhaust tail pipe has damaged the rear vala...

Re: has anyone ever used a dash vinyl repair kit before

The lower panel done in leather would be probably better I did plan on dying the carpet black but then was not sure. The only other issue was the piping which is normally black (plastic) I had to cut this from the old panel cloth and then plastic painted it yellow the difficulty was reattaching it! ...

Re: Getting the rubbers and metal bracket off multi-leafs?

The multi pads should push out and a good whack should free the bracket. If you plan to upgrade your suspension to Poly bushes here is some advice for the leaf spring bushes and also the rear anti roll bar bushes. The eye bushes both ends are a rubber bush encased in metal which I presume is pressed...

Re: has anyone ever used a dash vinyl repair kit before

I bought some leather hide :ebay: and rewrapped my dash should of put it in warm water 1st though as it would have stretched a lot easier used contact adhesive both sides. I then retrimmed all the door cards, centre console, window trims and all dash plastic panels. The leather was 2-3mm thick so di...
